October surprises
« on: October 30, 2010, 12:14:39 AM »
isn't it cool how they can affect elections?

a few days before the 2004 presidential election, a bin laden tape came out.  The bearded one actually endorsed Kerry, didn't he?  You know that shit  must have pissed the dems off.  Such coincidental timing to scare people... bush squeaks out the win, and we all know the tape helped him.

This time, it's the dems... "we saved your asses today".... they saved lib chicago (some pity bump for obama's hometown) and they saved 2 jewish houses of worship... how commendable.... obama stopped an attack.

So what do you guys think about 'october surprises' when the timing of their release is set and the events are scripted by the same parties who benefit most from them?

I miss the usual parade of sexual deviates that are usually uncovered on the eve of the elections.

I want to see another Mark Foley type outing. That was priceless!  :P Then he ran into alcohol rehab. lol.

Uh 240-- this is a bad thing for the dems, not a good one.

This is the third attempt to attack America on its own soil in less than one year. Also, there was one successful attack ( Fort Hood).

How does this help Obama exactly?

Bush had a few attacks on our soil - 911, anthrax off the top of my head.

It would HURT obama, if it had been successful.
As it wasn't successful - and all the "people" on DU are celebrating "Obama stops major terror attack"

Then it certainly may help motivate the base to vote, and take away the "dems wont keep you safe" card from repubs.

And, it means we're not talking about the economy, or poll numbers.  We're seeing obama on tv high-fiving cause some informant giftwrapped this "save".  I wouldn't doubt at all it was set up to help the dems.

on free republic, many are blaming obama for it-

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2617272/posts

"I’m skeptical of the timing of this ‘threat’. Obama’s serious on Jon Stewart’s comedy show earlier this week, his 3AM phone call comes in alas on the Friday before mid-terms, he’s holding a press conference perfectly timed for the evening news the Friday before mid-terms; and yet the stock market is flat or up a tick the Friday before mid-terms."

Anthrax was a hoax-- it was some whackjob scientist working for a government agency that later killed himself. 911 was one attack which was followed by none the entire time Bush was in office. Obama had nothing to do with this and we have been attacked with increasing freequency since he took office. He has done a horrendous job of fighting terrorism (outside of drone attacks).

i can't argue any of that.

my point is that politically, it might benefit him.  As someone else said,

"I’m skeptical of the timing of this ‘threat’. Most people aren't aware of what obama's doing vs what bush was doing.  it's all the same to them.  To me, this smells.  The timing is just too good for obama.

This does nothing to help Obama.  It allowed him to read a five minute speech.  It wasn't his finest moment.  No one is going to change their votes next week over this.  I doubt a significant number of independents and Republicans will support him in 2012 because of this.

A successful attack requiring a strong military response is a different story.

This crap isn't going to change anything with swing voters, who are usually more educated and cautious with their votes....partisan people are/were still going to vote the same way, no matter what.
