People aren't retiring.
« on: October 31, 2010, 08:21:45 AM »
Alright can we for the love of god keep this non partisan. But was just thinking about the obvious, but does anyone how much pension depletion has increased unemployment. I mean since the crisis hit I'm guessing atleast a million people have put off retirement, which means there's a large group of people that aren't getting out of the way for the next generation of workers. Just wondering, I heard there might even be a major labour shortage in the next ten years.

I agree, except for the last part, not sure what you mean by a "labor shortage" in todays climate, with 9% unemployment, that would be a labor surplus.

But i think the idea of retirement is becoming laughable to a large portion of the population.

Well they'll have no choice in about ten years, as the youngest baby boomers will be in their late 50's.You gotta look at the population pyramids to truely see it, the numbers are dam right scarey.

That buldge in the middle will be too old for work by about 2020.

Hey, look at it this way, jobs will be plentiful and companies will have to compete for workers.

Yeah well it makes you wonder about all the people with degrees today with no jobs. The educated will finally get their jobs, and the spics will become legal labourers.

This is very simple - the cost of living, inflation, property taxes, et al are destroying the nation and making anyone who saves a loser in this society and dims the ability of almost anyone to retire.

this is why reverse mortgages are on the rise. Can't say I blame seniors for doing this.

Its still a financial gimmick.

The fact of the matter is that there is no amount of money one can save for later life to be able to retire with the massive tax burden, inflation, and basic cost of living anymore.

I have a great thread called inflation the hidden tax, which describes this.

yes but for those seniors, especially if they do the monthly draw, helps them pay for their medication, bills, eat and the alike. Fucking sucks for sure

Isn't rising house values suppose to aid in reitrment of seniors when they can downgrade from high income areas to cheaper areas.

That was in theory - however, prices are collapsing and wont recover for at least a decade.

Additionally, the property taxes in many areas is staggering, let alone the destruction of inflation on savers.

He is making the situation drastically worse via his money printing insanity and mandates and costly regs.
