Legal Drinking ages in other countries--
« on: October 31, 2010, 10:03:33 AM »
Why don't we hear about all the other countries and their alcohol related problems-- or M.A.D.D. and A.A. and all that shit?

How come in our country teens snort anything and everything they can get their hands on? Why don't European countries rant about their teenage populus having all the severe mental, alcohol and drug problems the U.S. has?

We are one of the VERY few countries that actually has the oldest minimum legal drinking age?

What's wrong with this picture? Thoughts?

I think alot of it has to do with how spread out US cities are...

most ppl in the US cant just walk down the street to a bar or use public transportation... :-\

just a thought Im sure this doesnt apply to alot of other countries though

All those anti-alcohol related organizations are just an extension of the US attitude about drinking being "bad." EVERYBODY was a drinker and europe, especially Germany, and they didn't go any stupid meetings.

As an FYI I was the president of S.A.D.D at our high school  ;D

I agree though 21 is stupid...  in other countries where its 16 and 18, people are taught at a young age to control their drinking, in many countries its looked down upon if you can't handle your liquor.

Cheezy!

21 is just stupid.  Here it's 18, sounds reasonable, though it could even be like Denmark, where it's 16. People are gonna drink anyway.
I saw a drunk hoe the other day maybe like 14.

I think its our culture I mean its celebrated here most 21 yr olds dont go out to just have a couple drinks they go out with the intention of getting totally drunk.

Its like ppl are looking for a funny drunk story to tell the day after.

While the legal drinking age where I live is 18, we have clubs here that don't allow anyone under 21 in as most kids 'can't hold their liquor', so to speak.

Alcohol + kids = stupidity trouble

The number of 'incidents' at the clubs which cater to older clientèle is vastly lower than the 'kiddie clubs'.

It's 19 in Canada and it's these guys that are in the majority of problems at a club/bar. High test levels and immaturity mixed with alcohol isn't a good combination.

You were trying to be funny, right?  Fail.  Think about your hastily written words before I school you on the childishness of it.  Oh, and this doesn't mean I don't think highly of you.  What I think of you is entirely dependent upon the words you put down here to express what you are thinking.

The quote shown above is anything but thinking, especially from someone as intelligent as you should be.

Ok lets make it easier for you to understand,

Driving a car at 16 but not allowed to drink before 21 is Fucked up. I would rather see a 17 yr old having a few beers that being immature with his friends speeding with a 2 ton potential deadly weapon thats for sure.

do ... you ...understand?

I don't believe that most European teens even really know what a Perc or Vic is...

it's just funny in a weird kind of way. Some countries don't even monitor the alcohol consumption. Strangeness.

I know that most teens smoke in other countries too. It's totally "accepted"

Do you think prostitution should be legal universally in the US?

it was 18 years ago in the US.

but alcohol (especially hard stuff) has long been considered evil here.

is it the Puritanical roots of the country?
cultural uses (wine and beer seen as 'food' for millenia in europe, whereas whiskey has been more prevalent since the beginning of america, and its certainly not seen as food)?

or is just the moronic scapegoating that happens so often? i.e. 'my dumbass kid got drunk and killed himself in a car, so now no one can drink!' - much like that guy in bigger, stronger, faster whose 17 year old kid was already on anti-depressants, was a drunk, etc., but it was steroids that done killed his boy!

Well first off dude it's way better for some 16 year old kid to learn to drive with the supervision and boundaries created by parents. I have friends that learned to drive while living on their own and they can't drive for shit. They learn enough to past the test and that's it. My parents taught me how to be a good god dam driver, being in a car is fucking dangerous, espeacially in polar bear country.

As far as why american's got such a high drinking age is cultural. The religious nut jobs won't teach their kids to drink while in high school. So soon as kids get to colledge they become retarted messes, and in a culture of irresponsibilty it's far easier to push up the drinking age, then ever making honest hard working americans take ownership of themselves.

I personally think it would be better if the drinking age and military involvement age would increase to the same age that parents can no longer claim their children as dependents on their tax return.....about 24 if I remember correctly.

Wow.  ;D You certainly showed me the door.  ;) If that is a piece of your mind, it must be very small indeed.  Look here ace, swede owns nothing save your undying love as shown by your feeble attempt to belittle me.  Here's the truth  mudturtle, a prophet is welcomed everywhere but his own country, however an idiot such as your self is needed in every village across the land. ;)

Clever little man.  You're such a smart ass I bet you could sit on a tub of ice cream and tell us all what flavor it is. ;D ;D ;D
