Palin Takes A Hit
« on: November 03, 2010, 07:28:27 AM »
It makes sense to be pretty careful in judging how things will affect Sarah Palin. But there's a decent argument that this is not a great night for her. Think about if Sharron Angle and Christine O'Donnell hadn't won their primaries. There's a decent chance Dems would have lost the Senate tonight. That's a pretty big deal. She also made a late endorsement of John Raese in West Virginia. He got crushed. And perhaps most importantly, she went to war in a big way with her state's senior senator, Lisa Murkowski. She got her beat in the Republican primary. But now it's looking like Murkowski's quite likely to win as a write-in, which is usually pretty much impossible to pull off.

...

Tea Party Republicanism had a big outing tonight, much bigger than I’d have thought possible. So it’s fair to say to me: You were wrong. You thought that nominating people like Rand Paul and Sharron Angle and Christine O’Donnell and Ken Buck would be a formula for disaster, but see – we got away with it, more or less. Except we didn’t get away with it. The people who inflicted Angle and O’Donnell on the GOP threw away ridiculously winnable Senate seats. ...

Will there be accountability for these self-inflicted disasters? It’s one thing to lose an election over principle. But what principle requires the nomination of the inept and the arrogant? Here are candidates who declare that they are running to defend freedom from Kenyan Marxist fascism and then refuse to answer questions from reporters – or outright order reporters arrested.

Bachman won huge last night and put Tingles right in his place.

Palin also helped out huge between Rubio, Rand, Johnson, West, and all the house members the tea party got elected.

It would help if you linked the source of this foolishness, so we can more thoroughly laugh it to scorn.

The problem with you (and whoever wrote this crap) is simple: You're so busy focusing on the high-profile Tea Party guys/gals that lost, that you're getting slapped silly by the not-so-highly-profiled Tea Party candidates that WON.

BTW, two of them just took governor's office. Rick Scott (FL) and Paul LePage (ME).

Not to mention the Senate races: Paul, Rubio, Johnson, Boozman. Buck is still slightly ahead, and don't count out Joe Miller.

If they pull those off, that put the Tea Party tally in the Senate to SIX. So, Palin hardly took a hit. She has helped the Tea Party lift the GOP from the grave, to beat the hell out of the Democrats.

what were palin's endorsement numbers last night?

i like how, when she started 2-for-5 last night, it "didn't matter".

If she was 12-for-12 today, i think it would suddenly matter... ;)

well, Joe Miller got 34% of the Alaska votes.

you're telling me, if Miller just got 65% of the vote, there would be a "kingmaker" thread on it?

How is 65% of her candidates winning suck? She doesnt endorse idiots that are entrenched government people, she goes out on a limb. What is really amazing is her endorsement DWARFS Obamas.Joe Manchen[spelling]in West Virginia told Obama to stay out.Imagine that? The president of the United States banned from campaigning for a dem.On top of that he had to shoot Obamas cap and trade bill rto win.

So,what we have learned is Palin is great and Obama is a loser as no president in 50 years ever lost 60+ seats in the congress other then HIM.

Palin Was The Big Winner In Last Night's Election

First things first!

Q. How did the Sarah Palin for President campaign do last night?

A. Not bad!!

There's the messy little problem on the home front, of course, where the Wicked Witch returned from her primary defeat to defeat Ms. Palin's favored one in the general election. And there are the losses in the West Virginia, Delaware and Nevada Senate races. Any number of so-called "establishment Republicans" are lining up to blame those defeats on Ms. Palin.

But the fact is, Sue Lowden wasn't going to beat Harry Reid in Nevada. No one was going to beat Harry Reid in Nevada. He ran a nearly perfect campaign.

In West Virginia, Ms. Palin at least had the right message, which was: "don't send your good governor to Washington, keep him here in West Virginia. Send a Republican to Washington and it's a two-fer." It didn't work (obviously), but neither did it leave behind any ill will or bad karma.

And Delaware wasn't so much Ms. Palin's fault as it was a complete failure of the vaunted "GOP Establishment" to scare up 33,000 votes for Rep. Mike Castle in the Republican primary. You have to be really, really bad at your work to not produce 33,000 votes in a primary for a candidate who had served as governor and as an at-large Congressman for the better part of two decades. That Ms. Palin defeated them with Tweets and Facebook says a lot more about them than it does about her.

So the only real blemish is the Alaska thing and, truth be told, no one really cares about Alaska, because no one really knows anything about Alaska. It's like a foreign country to the political world.

What the political world does care about is early caucus and primary states. Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina are the "big three" in that category and it was in the "big three" that Ms. Palin played her hand best.

When it was politically difficult to do so, she endorsed Iowa's once and future governor Terry Branstad in the primary. She did so against the wishes of many prominent Iowa conservative activists, who thought Branstad was insufficiently devoted to the cause. At the end of the general election campaign, every wannabe 2012 presidential candidate was fulsome in his praise of the great wisdom and magnificence of Mr. Branstad. Branstad owes them nothing. He owes Sarah Palin big-time. She flattened his conservative opposition.

Ditto New Hampshire, where Palin interceded on behalf of state Attorney General Kelly Ayotte and squashed her Tea Party primary challenger. Ayotte went on to win (by a wide margin) the U.S. Senate seat now held by Judd Gregg.

Ditto South Carolina, where Palin catapulted Nikki Haley from single digit primary obscurity into the governor's mansion in South Carolina. In all three of the key early states, Ms. Palin now commands the allegiance of the most important GOP political figure in those states.

Not bad indeed.

In the meantime, a few more Republicans woke up this morning to the dulcet tones (in their minds' ear) of "Hail to the Chief." Among them, Rick Perry of Texas! And Haley Barbour of Mississippi (who, as head of the RGA, helped a lot of his new-best-friend governors-elect win their elections). And don't forget Mitch Daniels and Tim Pawlenty, who look at the field and say: "Haley Barbour? Why not me?"

They're all men. Ms. Palin is the only woman. And the "Republican Establishment" in Washington is openly saying they want her dead. If you wanted to script the movie for Sarah Palin, it doesn't start much better than that.

No one was going to beat Harry Reid in Nevada. He ran a nearly perfect campaign.

He was polling 25 to 75% vs. "unnamed republican".

All angle did was show up and then plummet for 3 straight months.  That's it.  Reid ran a good campaign?  LOL!  Look at Nevada's economy - Reid was the target of Rush and friends for the last 2 years!

Sorry, but a better candidate would have beaten Reid handily.

This is comical.  Palin has been kicking butt all across the country.  Although I don't like the fact she didn't finish her term, she has done an outstanding job helping candidates, raising good issues, and helping support female candidates.
