Lame Duck Congress
« on: November 04, 2010, 09:07:58 AM »
Since Dems still control the House and Senate and we know that Repubs are not going to start compromising in the new year.............shouldn't the Dems pass as much of their agenda as they can now?

If nothing else, they should let the Bush Tax cuts expire (as was designed by the Repubs themselves)

2012 is a long way away

no one voting will be thinking about what they did in the last few weeks of 2010

what they will be thinking about is whatever they are feeling at the moment or from the prior few months

Not true - Nelsons actions during obamacare will still be on the minds of voters in 2012.  He is done.

so if he's already done then why does it matter?

there are plenty of outgoing Dems who have nothing to lose either and if Obama is done after one term (as some think) then he has nothing to lose either

they won't raise taxes

The Repubs designed the Bush Tax cuts to sunset

they are the ones that will be raising taxes (if it comes to that)

In the house Yes - but the senate is a different matter.  I posted a list of vulbernable dems for 2012 - and many of them want to keep their job.

This doesn't even make sense.

And it's your far-left cronies that are piggybacking onto the "extend the tax cuts" wave to save face.

what they do in the next few weeks will be long forgotten in 2012

all that will matter at that point is how the economy is doing

sure - they want to extend for the middle class and let them expire for higher income brackets

that will be there only leverage and the Repubs will either have to take it or leave it

yeah because they were recent events and the Repubs reminded them about it constantly

If they can't repeal it (which they won't) then the benefit will just start to kick in and if the Repubs take over both houses and/or White House they will be the ones taking away benefits that people are actually starting to feel.

2012 is a long time away

The "benefits" are only going to people likely to vote dem anyway and dont go into effect until 2014 anyway.  But its not only ObamaCare, its everything.

A total lie and typical lib revisionist history. To get the tax cuts through they had to agree to an expiration date. They have tried to make them permanent many times. If you let a tax cut expire -taxes go up and increase, thats called a tax increase.

actual fact

you're seriously stupid if you don't know this

Repubs passed the Bush tax cuts with reconciliation and since it increased the deficit the only way to get it through was to have it sunset in 10 years.

when did the health care bill pass? ppl remembered that and they will continue to remember that in 2 years...

the tax cuts need to be kept where they are straw at least for now I agree that they need to be raised down the road along with MASSIVE cuts in spending and entitlement programs.

BUT

as of right now we need to do everything we can to give businesses who are sitting on ass loads of capital reasons to spend it and hire new ppl.

essentially raising tax rates wont help stimulate spending from companies or individuals one bit, wouldnt you agree?

then why are you for letting the tax cuts expire?

no one has felt any benefit from the healthcare legislation but they will in two years and those that benefit will like it

I'm for letting any tax cuts for people > 250k expire.   That will benefit the majority of citiznes and while produceing a large increase in tax revenue and it will be consistent with what Obama has said he would do regarding taxes.

If REpubs want new tax cuts then they can find a way to pay for it and pass them.

LOL straw facts are facts the health care bill is far from deficit nuetral like it was billed as...it has many unintended consequences and will likely see much change before it takes effect.

Thats fine but NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO RAISE TAXES ON ANYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!

why just the reps? lol the dems have spend the shit out of our tax money without saying how they will pay for that for the last 2 years?

I'm not aware that there is any actual results of the health care legislation other than projections.

if we want to cut spending lets start with the military

even Gates is on board with that

actual fact

you're seriously stupid if you don't know this

Repubs passed the Bush tax cuts with reconciliation and since it increased the deficit the only way to get it through was to have it sunset in 10 years.

As usual you insult me for no reason,I said nothing about you but as I said they had to let these expire because of democrats. Here is the explanation you stupid fucking lib idiot.

One of the most notable characteristics of EGTRRA is that its provisions are designed to sunset, or revert to the provisions that were in effect before it was passed. EGTRRA will sunset on January 1, 2011 unless further legislation is enacted to make its changes permanent. The sunset provision sidesteps the Byrd Rule, a Senate rule that amends the Congressional Budget Act to allow Senators to block a piece of legislation if it purports to significantly increase the federal deficit beyond a ten-year term. The sunset allowed the bill to stay within the letter of the PAYGO law while removing nearly $700 billion from amounts that would have triggered PAYGO sequestration.

Do you now understand you fucking dunce?Because of the Robert KKK Byrdd rule, the republicans HAD to let it expire to avoid breaking the Byrd rule and it allowed the bill to stay in the PAYGO law. So,keep insulting me ,but do some fucking research before you do.They had to let them expire or sunset to pass it because of left wing lib idiots like Robert KKK Byrd.

Yeah that exactly what they should do ::) The American people have told them no, so of course the natural reaction should be to keep doing what you were doing. Its not like they work for the American people or anything
