That's one of the reasons why all of the Throwing World Records seem so out of reach to throwers of today.

Barnes was a massive roid freak.

Sedykh had amazing technique, but roid use in the USSR was big over there too.

The record in the discus also seems to be going nowhere anytime soon, and even some who got caught juicing in recent years cant match it.

yeh, cause the fact is those older guys could take dbol and anadrol adn halotestin by the fucking handful.......right up to and through the day of the competition

guys today can take some designer shit, but its not as strong, and they cant take as much and, they have to watch the dose, and make sure they are able to mask it. and cut the shit out so many weeks prior to the competition

with all the modern limits in place, it makes sense that a lot of the records wont be broken

It sucks because guys who are clean know there is never a chance of beating these records short of some revolutionary new technique being developed.

I don't know man - the major throwing records for shot, discus, and hammer are all over 25 years old.

is that right??

i didnt know it was that dramatic, that all the records are that old

what does that tell the people running the sport?  usually it works the other way, records keep being broken........how do they rationalize it, do they think people had better thrrowing genetics a quarter century ago?

I threw in hs and college and was actually very good at the Hammer throw.  I think the roids are a big issue coupled with the fact that its not like you can change technology to improve your throws whereas other events you can, like the pole vault, shows, track surface, etc etc.

that is REALLY bizarre........the guys in that video, have COMPLETELY different bodies then guys today

the guys today are big and somewhat athletic looking but,,,,,,,,, definitely chubby.........cause obviously in the absence of drugs that fat helps increase surface area, which increases power

but the old guy were tall, lean, super-men looking motherfuckers

very dramatic difference......with all the advancments in modern nutrition and training, i wonder how they rationalize that guys 30 years ago make todays guys look like fat children

Alot of those guys lifted a lot more too.  todays' guys do more plyo drills and crap like that.

i can only imagine how far Adam Nelson would throw if he had the roid regime these guys took.

Even though few today can measure up to what Udo Beyer, Günther Werner and Brian Oldfield did for obvious reason, they still does amazing things in the gym.

Here's Tero Pitkamaki benching 170 kilos.

Andreas Thorkildsen current number one javelin thrower:

Speaking of Brian Oldfield... This clip always gets me fired up before training...

Tragically, these days he's apparently wheel chair bound from what I've heard.

There's a reason that eras such as the one you are referring to are often called "golden".  In your own way, you've nailed it.  Well done.

HAHAH

What are you talking man?

Claiming some of these athletes for example in Olympics are clean is same as claiming that somebody could step up on Mr. O -stage clean.

The testing done in Track and field on an INTERNATIONAL level is pretty stringent.

So I think it's safe to assume that when they compete in the Grand Prix's, they're clean

It really boils down to if the respective national track and field/Olympic organisation is actively testing their athletes when they're at home in the off season.

Some athletes are also famous/notorious for ditching the Grand Prix's, staying away training for only the big championships.
Eg, the Greek sprinters Thanou and Kenteris who both got busted in the end.

IMO, at least USA, Germany, UK, a few of the Scandinavian countries, et al, have fairly solid testing.

Some other countries don't have the same programs.

Eg, in Weightlifting, the recent phenom Pat Mendes is going to compete for Brazil instead of USA.

Yep, testing for sure is pretty strict.

But one thing amazes me here. It is that nobody on this board believes that significant muscle mass can be built naturally but at least few are ready to believe that man can shot put over 21 meters without drugs...

This must be because everybody here has tried to build muscle and found out it ain't necessarily that easy but not too many have seriously trained to throw some object as far as possible...

Dunno. It was also believed some years ago that in skiing there is not much drugs involved and testing was also regular and well supervised. It all broke down in 2001 if I remember correctly when Finnish skiing team get caught from systematic, wide-spread doping. So who knows what is going on in track n' field....

My belief on the american throwers not being big juicers is to look at their physiques vs the guys from the 80's and early 90's for which i have posted videos.

Its not like the guys now dont lift a lot, they do, but also seem to carry around more fat.
