Murdoch: Mayor Bloomberg Called President Obama the Most "Arrogant" Man He Ever Met
November 05, 2010 4:26 PM

You may recall that during President Obama’s vacation at Martha’s Vineyard, on August 27 he took in a round of golf at the Vineyard Golf Club in Edgartown, playing golf with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg; Democratic lawyer, business man and éminence grise Vernon Jordan; and White House trip director (and former golf pro) Marvin Nicholson.

The pool report at the time said that "We are told Bloomberg and Obama talked in the clubhouse for about 15 mins about the economy. They then went to the driving range.”

Apparently – at least from a second-hand report – the Obama-Bloomberg convo could have gone better.

In an interview with The Australian Financial Review, conservative media magnate Rupert Murdoch says ''Bloomberg said it was a pleasant day. In conversation he put a few ideas … He said it was like verbal ping pong.”

Bloomberg, according to Murdoch, “came back and said 'I never met in my life such an arrogant man'."

A spokesman for Bloomberg did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Murdoch – the Australian-born founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of News Corporation, which owns conservative media outlets ranging from Fox News Channel to the New York Post – is described by The Age as saying in the interview that President Obama “might make great speeches but doesn't get things done and doesn't listen to anybody.”

Earlier this year, News Corporation gave $1 million to the Republican Governors Association as well as $1 million to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which largely worked to elect Republicans in the 2010 midterm elections.

The interview was first picked up in the U.S. by The Politico’s Ben Smith.

I like Bloomberg and he's known to put his foot in his mouth on occassion (like the times square bomber comment) but I wouldn't trust anything that Murdoch says and I don't think Bloomberg is likely to make such a comment to someone like Murdoch

Dear God - are you kidding?  Bloomberg is a business giant and has shown great competence in dealing with many problems.

I tend to agree with Straw Man. I think such an exclusive would go to a Bloomberg correspondent before it went to Murdoch. That would be like Dave Thomas dining at McDonalds.

Most people who have dealt with him have said he is beyond arrogant, narcissitic, and often thinks he is the smartest man in the room no matter where he goes when in truth the opposite is is almost invariably the case.

He is a joke.  I know plumbers and electricians with more economic sense than Obama

It's certainly possible that Bloomberg didn't make those comments, but does any objective person really believe he is not arrogant?  This is part of the reason I did not vote for him.

Bloomberg so far hasnt denied it and he is flirting with a third party run for POTUS.

Bloomberg has been against Obama on many many issues like FINREG, Taxes, regulatory uncertainty, ObamaCare, etc.

We are probably ripe for another third-party run in 2012.

Woodward interviewed obama at length he said that he got the impression that obama thinks he is always the smartest person in the room.

Almost everyone else has said the same thing of Obama, including Sarkozy and many others.

That is the difference between a grounded, wise person and an arrogant person.  My best friend is one of the smartest persons I know.  I told him that when he enters any given room he is probably the smartest person in the room, but doesn't act like it; just a friendly, engaging, good listener.  Says a lot about him.

Regarding the president, if Woodward said that, it lends more credibility to Bloomberg's alleged comments.

that would be bad.  very bad.

obama is going to have 40% of voters automatically.  Does anyone doubt this?

Then you'll have the moderate get 30% of the vote, the tea party candidate gets 30% of the vote... and Obama gets another 4 years.

You know... how clinton won in 94 with Perot taking 18% of the total, mostly from Bush?  ;)

Yeah.  Although you have be careful about the rumor mill (or what they call the "coconut wireless" here), someone made a profound statement to me a little while back:  hearsay is reputation.  You start hearing the same thing from multiple credible sources and it becomes a smoke/fire thing.

It could make the election a toss-up, but wouldn't necessarily guarantee an Obama win.

And keep in mind the only reason Perot "only" got about 19 percent of the vote was he acted like a nut late in the game.  Cost him a lot of votes (including mine).

333386 will be happy to illustrate why - thanks to race, white liberal guilt, and govt entitlement checks - Obama is going to get 40% of the vote no matter what.

Since the rest of the country is probably split pretty evenly between moderate conservatives and tea party conservatives, it would give Obama the wun, unfortunately.

I think

Christie
Thune
Huck (Dear God I hope to not have to vote for him)

Romney I really think is stale at this point.

I think Thune is the sleeper.   within the conservative movement and GOP - everyone knows Thune as the Giant Killer.

What makes you think Thune is viable?  Haven't heard his name mentioned much.  He's not showing up on straw polls.  Media isn't really talking about him.  From a small state.  No money.

I love the clips you have posted of Christie, but I'd like to know more about him, and hear more from him, before really jumping on the bandwagon.

I'm o.k. with Huck.
