« on: November 09, 2010, 01:20:42 PM »
Feel free to add to the list:

Buffalo
Kangaroo
Ostrich
Rattesnake
Whale
Horse
Zebra
Crocodile
Antelope (different kinds)
Dog
Reindeer

These all taste quite good, depending on how they are prepared. Anyone have any that are not on the list?

We purchase all our meat products from local butchers who specialize in natural meats. We eat bison, elk and ostrich. Not that we eat a lot of animal products, but when we do these are great sources of animal protein.

I cannot understand how you can think eating a dog is OK .. but you have issues when people bash each other on the boards ...  :-\

Why not add fresh monkey brains to the list ?

Clearly a cultural judgement. I don't eat dog in the West and I have only had it a few times, twice in Korea, once in China and once in Vietnam. Surely you recognise that it is merely a cultural view point. For example to Hindus, beef (cow) is sacred and no one would ever eat beef because it is a sin. I am sure they gasp in horror at the sight of your dinner steak. Food=always relative and that is a fact.

So you're saying "When in Rome" essentially .. amirite ?

Hard for me to understand how accepting of some cultures you can be .. but find some other things so distasteful  ???

Cultural relativism is stupid. Dogs have coevolved alongside man over millions of years and we should no more eat them than another person. If you say otherwise you are starved for attention or just not very bright.

Hope that helps.

Well, it really depends on the the culture and the respective issue. I am always willing to try new food (once at leat). I had fried tanrantual once but I doubt I will do that again. To a certain extent I am saying when in Rome but more so I am saying that food REALLY is relative. In Thailand people make their living by selling fried insects and other creepies because people fancy them there. No one would do that in the West though.

I am not anything. The Chinese have been eating dogs for thousands of years and we know how brilliant that culture is. Lots of things have coevolved; domestic cattle have coevolved and people eat them every day. Unfortunately when it comes to food and other issues, cultures truly are different.

You see that vid in China of who could serve up a snake or a fish the fastest? The snake was skinned, chopped up and still squirming around on the plate. The fish was "boiled" and then served on a platter, still gasping for breath...even animals kill their food.

No, not all, African Wild Dogs literally eat the flesh off their prey until it collapses from exhaustion, dying whilst being eaten. We boil lobsters alive...
