Giant Jesus statue rises above Polish countryside

This isn't really a statue.  It is a giant robot which will come to life on 2012 and attack a small Japanese village.[1]

That's pretty freaking cool.  Is that the one in Brazil?  Or did they really do this in Poland?  I think that's great.

Maybe this is a better question for the religious board, but how do you feel about them doing something like this?  Isn't better to spend the money on things that are needed more?  Like shelter, food, education etc.?

That's exactly what's going on in Poland right now, controversy over this statue for the reasons you mentioned.  I personally would have spent the money on better things, like the ones you mentioned.  Plus I'm not big on depictions of people or things that could so easily become idol worship to many people.

As a work of art and as a landmark, I think it's very cool.  But given the current world economy, it seems like bad timing to me.

mainly to create controversy and make "some" people uncomfortable, id like to do the same with a statue of baphomet...
