Classic physique from the "golden years" of bodybuilding. Times change and so does the perception of what bodybuilding should be. I do think that from the late 70's to the late 80's, bodybuilding seemed much more accepted from mainstream America than it does now. I would rather have a physique like Zane's over today's competitor's because in regular clothes Zane looks like a fit guy.

Actually, he was about 5' 8" to5' 9" when I met him.  Of course he was much younger than now and we all shrink with age.  No where near a midget unless you are really tall, e.g., 7 feet and more.  A great physique champion who has done more in his lifetime than the majority of us.

believe it or not bodybuilding is 10000 more times excepted by the mainstream NOW than in the late 70s n 80s anyone who was really into it back then knows that...i did my sophomore term paper on arnold in 1982 at the time mind you i went to a public school the 2nd biggest one in toledo ohio, roy c start high school. i was 1 of only 2 people into powerlifting and bodybuilding...my teacher and noone else in the class even knew who arnold was.  we all had to read them out loud and show pics of who ur paper was about....noone had a clue who he was.  i will say everyone was amazed by him and i answered questions on it for about 20 mins ......they really had mixed feelings and none of the girls admitted to liking his look...

now arnold is king of the country.

It could be Nubret or Reeves, it doesn't matter, they represent an idealology that is completely diffeent from modern bodybuilding.

Him being small and people aspiring to his look has jack to do with it. If anything it's far less attainable.

Anybody can get big, absolutely anybody. To look good while not weighing much is entirely down to genetics and structure.

With the right training and supplementation anybody could put on the mass of modern pro bodybuilders.

Asthetics is all about the beauty of the physique, the artisitic part of bodybuilding. Size is a totally different ballgame.

i didnt look at this years nationals but i would bet that ray was talkign about the depth of the field, and not the class winners(although he may have been rtefering to burneika).

The human body can only support a certain ammount of mass before the lines and structure get swamped by mass.

Dexter looks like he has swallowed a tortoise, he has zero taper, Phil heath has the arms of someone 8 foot tall and the chest and width of a 7 year old girl...

Flex Wheeler is a good example, he looked a million times better in his rookie year than he ever did again.

Most people would look at someone like Rockel or Henry and burst out laughing because they look so bad.

Go and ask a thousand people on the street what they think looks more aesthetic Zane or Heath. I would be surprised if more than five people said Heath.

i already mentioned wheeler as being superior to zane. zane looked awesome. how many times do i have to say that. but theres 500 guys in the npc today who look better than he did. not all the guys, and not all the guys that are winning either. npc/ifbb judges dont always award the best physiques. there is a case to be made about the "downfall of bodybuilding" in regards to the distended stomachs, wide waists and the lack of conditioning that has been accepted in mr olympias and other top spots, but those guys usually have a shit load of mass to go along with it. alot of guys dont get distorted, keep their aesthetics, and achieve a bigger, better body than zane had.
