Poll: Do you agree with this and could someone like this get elected today?
Very vague and imprecise. What does 'extremism' mean? Gunning down a bunch of people who have different political views from yours could be justified with 'defence of liberty' but what does that mean? Everyone has his own take on what liberty constitutes, in line with the ideology he follows. The Nazis thought they were liberating Germany from what many viewed as parasites. It was done in the name of nationalism. I think throwing words around like that is a bit of a red herring, just rhetoric.
Sure, why couldn't someone like that get elected? Politicians always have some catch word, be it 'change', 'no new taxes', etc...
