TeenAge Deadlifting
« on: November 20, 2010, 10:51:16 AM »
My son's best friend , who is the same age as my son 17, might be a natural for deadlifting as he pulled 400 with ZERO training.
He is serious about training for some teenage meets.
Can we have some help with a training routine?
He's about 175 pounds , 5'8" and probably 10 percent bodyfat not that that matters much for powerlifting.

You should "mentor" him. Give him a "job" just to train 1 summer. Thoughts?

Is he an athlete or just wants to turn him into a powerlifter?

I did a 473.25 at the USAPL nationals when I was 15. Had to sleep on hardwood floor for 3mos after that.  Have bulged so many times since then, I cannot begin to count.  Lateral head of my gastroc fires only 50% of time in left leg, but have feeling back anyway.  It's not that it's unsafe, it's just when you're young, you're dumb.  Teen lifters really need a couch, imo.

Laying around will get them nowhere.

What they really need is a coach.

For weightlifting and bodybuilding genetics are about 70% of it. At least. You gotta work with what your genetics give you.

No, but as I recall it wasn't too far off.  If I remember correctly, I was at around 198 at that time.  I came in 2nd place.

Why is that when someone mentions a lift someone always has to come on here with some sort of self gratification look at me post and tell us how great their lifts were.  It's like when I get sick and have a cold that's really bad, people at work are like "oh man that sucks, well this one time I had a cold that was WAY worse than that blah blah blah"

Ok we get it, you have no self esteem, move on.

Have you ever seen the musculature on someone who has been deadlifting heavy for a long time?

4 plates for somone that weight at that age, with NO training is truely impressive........... if he was 280 with zero training it wouldnt impress so much, but it seems he has a talent
