Training after a 2 year lay off-I need motivation
« on: November 24, 2010, 01:24:01 PM »
Well...after a two year lay off it is time to hit the weights again.  Marriage...new house...baby...all led to such a long break.  I was 6'2" and 225...now I am down to 195.  Any advice other than just grin and bear the pain?  I will post pics every month to track progress.  I guess that is the best way to stay motivated.

Good luck bro. I just got back into it myself. Avoid major soreness; don't train the way you did before your layoff; lighter, less sets and more bodyparts in one workout. See how sore you are an adjust next training based on it. Common sense but being very sore is not productive.

Keep us posted on your progress.

"motivation" is chemical related=seretonin

eat enough good foods to get in a good flood of serotonin in order to spike your mood to eagerly lift

just like there can be long days at work or there can be short more fun type days, all chemical related unless your getting hoes on the job ;)

the prime directive is the brain wich is feuled by chemicals like seretonin /tesosterone wich generally run parallel/ dependent/correlate

Here's some motivation:

In just a few short months of intense workouts, you can look as good as these guys and can rest easy knowing that you will never have to look as crappy as Jay "The Fridge" Cutler.

Full body workouts 3 days a week
5 sets of 5 slow reps(same weight all 5 sets) min/rest in between sets
1 exercise per body part
increase water intake
No protein shakes(use pasteurized liquid egg whites instead-egg beaters substitute etc- just drink them straight out of the carton)
No cardio at all

How do any of those get me in shape?  There is no more guilt.

That's because you worked it off. Guilt is an amazing motivator, almost as good as fear. You look way better than you did before no worries there.

Down from 225 to 195 after a 2-year lay-off? I'm curious how quickly you will get the 30 pounds back? If you stay comitted and focused with your training I'm thinking about 3 months. On a side note are you sitting at roughly the same bodyfat? In my case, after a 6 month layoff I usually gain 10 pounds but lose probably 10 pounds of muscle, so even though I'm only 10 pounds heavier, I'm 20 pounds fatter.
