I make 120K a year, so in order to risk losing that job, it would cost you a minimum of $20,000 to get out of the ticket.

My brother just had his retirement party after 30 years as a CHP.  Where are you a cop.

ive been thinking of maybe becoming one lately. the one thing i would NOT want to do however is handing out tickets to honest citizens on cheap, trivial technicalities.

agnostic, is there a way to be a cop and NOT have to do the 'writing tickets for not coming to a complete stop' crap, or does everyone have to do that at some point?

you would first be assigned to patrol once you graduated the academy. These days patrol officers are so busy running from call to call it's not that often we have time to write tickets for minor violations and it is left up to your descretion on writing for minor ones. You would be expected to write for violations like running a red light (not just barely missing the yellow), blowing stop signs at faster than 5mph, having a baby not fastened in, things like that, but we are left alone to enforce what we can inbetween shaggin calls.

Yep that is what my bro is 55.  I was supposed to retire at 40 but that got fucked up.  So I have 55 now.  I am on track for a great retirement.  I have a 40' Class A I am looking at to buy now cause the prioce is right.  Plus my friend just moved into a huge house with a huge backyard and said I could store it there no charge just let him take it out every once in awhile.  I want one so I can travel and see the sights.  Plus it has those slideoout things and it is awesome.  I had some photos somewhere.  Anyway, can't wait to no have to do anything anymore.

cool so it would mostly be responding to calls, with giving out tickets left up to your own discretion in between calls? are you required to hand out a certain amount of tickets?

It works like this. You are on a shift with 9 other guys. If those other guys are averaging 1 or 2 tickets a day, then your Sergeant might notice you aren't contributing and eventually say something. Say what we will about traffic tickets, some people are just a hazard out on the road and need a reminder every now and then that they need to pay attention. So most people drive reasonably out of fear they may get a ticket. If they continue to speed, or run red lights and see they aren't getting stopped by police that are in the area, they get bolder until they end up hurting themselves (which I don't really mind) or worse, hurting others. So tickets are a necessary evil.

When I was a Sergeant, my philosophy was that in a 10 hr shift, barring any wild crazy nights, you will be able to see and stop at least 1 vehicle that was creating a hazard with their driving.. so on a 4 day work week, if tickets were in the 3 or better range I wouldn't say anything. Some officers love traffic enforcement, some hate it...

I've dreamed of being in the RCMP ever since I was a kid in canada, they get a lot of respect in rural areas atleast from the people we know. Than again they usually bust people for drinking on roads that are loaded with moose, drinking beer whereever we want, or speeding on roads that are loaded with moose.
Plus chicks that dig mounties are usually ultra gear.(hot conservative/ and they like a guy that's fit) still wanna do it, but I doubt I could pass the pysch profile's to save my life. (no joke) cousin's husband blew them and he seemed normal.

I donno I generally don't like american cops, just because the structure is way to subjective. You gotta have just the right number of tickets in a days, would you give them out to people that seem like you(nice white chaps) or thugs driving cadi's with 2pac blarring?

Take all of your tickets to court. I do and it gets you them completely dismissed if the cop doesn't show, or they will bargain them down so they don't have to spend anymore time there fighting it out with you. I had a 30 over ticket plus failure to signal. They dropped the signal one and dropped the 30 over to 20 over when I showed up ready to fight them.

Even if you're in the wrong, just show up to court and they will want to bargain them down to keep it from carrying on. They'll usually have 5-10 others there that same day fighting similar tickets. All they want is to get you the fuk out of there so they can't get the fuk out of there.

I think it varies by state.  I've had A LOT of speeding tickets and ALWAYS show up at court.  The officer has never been there.  I literally say two words - no contest - get the points reduced, pay the fine and leave.

that doesnt sound too bad. are you allowed to stop people for driving too slowly? i firmly believe that for the most part its the old people and space cadets who are going along 15 under the speed limit are the biggest threats because they are completely not paying attention and/or mentally slow and are therefore far more likely to do something stupid on the roads than someone who is going 15 over but focusing 100% on driving carefully

You can't arrest people for going to slow they could just be having an off day, and don't wanna fuck around. I know what you mean but there's no way to screen for it.

But whatever yesterday saw some mofo clear a red light with a cellphone in his hands that's fucking aggravating.

"impeding the flow of traffic" is a citation title in texas. Slow drivers can also be an indication of intoxication.. especially if sparks are flying from the bare wheel because they hadn't noticed they drove the rubber off the flat tire 10 miles back..

Um I wouldn't admit to it, it's bad for the force in general. I know in canada you get paid pretty sick, but they have highly highly selective screening more so than seals/elite whatever, so they can't get people that wanna spent there first 5 years posted in the high artic talking shit from an eskimo with a rifle.
