Undercover agents in a sting operation stopped a Somali-born teenager from blowing up a van full of explosives at a crowded Christmas tree lighting ceremony in downtown Portland, federal authorities said.

The bomb was a dud supplied by the agents and the public was never in danger, authorities said.

Mohamed Osman Mohamud, 19, was arrested at 5:40 p.m. Friday just after he dialed a cell phone that he thought would set off the blast but instead brought federal agents and police swooping down on him.

Yelling "Allahu Akbar!" - Arabic for "God is great!" - Mohamud tried to kick agents and police after he was taken into custody, according to prosecutors.

operation stopped a Somali-born teenager from

Portland, federal authorities said.

The bomb was a dud supplied by the agents and the
public was never in danger, authorities said.

Yelling "Allahu Akbar!" - Arabic for "God is great!" - 
Mohamud tried to kick agents and police after he
was taken into custody, according to prosecutors.

"The threat was very real," said Arthur Balizan,
special agent in charge of the FBI in Oregon. "Our
investigation shows that Mohamud was absolutely
committed to carrying out an attack on a very grand
scale,"

The FBI affidavit that outlined the investigation
 alleges that Mohamud planned the attack for
months, at one point mailing bomb components to
FBI operatives, whom he believed were assembling
the device.

It said Mohamud was warned several times about the
seriousness of his plan, that women and children
could be killed, and that he could back out, but he
told agents: "Since I was 15 I thought about all this;"
and "It's gonna be a fireworks show ... a spectacular
show."

Mohamud, a naturalized U.S. citizen living in 
Corvallis, was charged with attempted use of a
weapon of mass destruction and is scheduled for a
court appearance Monday. Few details were
available about him late Friday.

Authorities allowed the plot to proceed in order to
build up enough evidence to charge the suspect
with attempt.

Officials didn't say if the suspect had any ties to
other Americans recently accused of trying to carry
out attacks on U.S. soil, including alleged efforts in
May by a Pakistan-born man to set off a car bomb
near Times Square or another Pakistan-born
Virginia resident accused last month in a bomb plot
to kill commuters.

U.S. Attorney Dwight Holton released federal court
documents to The Associated Press and the
Oregonian newspaper that show the sting operation
began in June after an undercover agent learned that
Mohamud had been in regular e-mail contact with
an "unindicted associate" in Pakistan's northwest, a
frontier region where Al Qaida and Afghanistan's 
Taliban insurgents are strong.

The two used coded language in which the FBI
believes Mohamud discussed traveling to Pakistan
to prepare for "violent jihad," the documents said.

The guy that went to jail for it actually had a voice recording of the FBI snitch telling him it was a dud, a test for security measures.  He didn't trust the agent, so he actually recorded it.  NY Times even printed a transcript of the tape.

Of course the somali savage is scum of the earth and probably should be liquidated, but why did they wait for this big announcement untl today?

The New York Times is the source...I remember that story. The guys name was Mohammed Salem and he was being tricked into believing he was assisting the CIA with a bomb plot "drill" on the World Trade Center. When Mohamed found out the bombs they were using were REAL he contacted the FBI, recorded the whole conversation with those in charge of the "DRILL", and informed the FBI that that someone was trying to blow up the WTC, but was ignored...ergo WTC explosion 1993. Mr Salem was still convicted as the person who was trying to do it despite it being revealed as a government Op.

You recently had a group of men arrested in the Bronx claiming they were going to perform terroristic acts with "BOMBS GIVEN TO THEM BY AGENTS". Though they claimed they were not given any bombs or weapons they were still arrested and charged with terrorism.

Still another group of men in the Bronx were given weapons by agents and told to go and blow up synagogues. The men claimed they were not given weapons, but were offered cash for no reason, then they were arrested by "AGENTS" and charged with attempting to commit terroristic acts, anti semitism (there is that misused word again) etc etc.

Now this case involving a Somali person supposedly is an example of flat out LYING, entrapment and scapegoating. Essentially this case tells that the FBI and/or CIA searched out the city for a Somali Teenager patsy who more than likely did not speak English, gave him a cell phone and told him to stand by a car. The rest of the story was concocted for the sake of making the Portland cops appear necessary in their jobs. As you well know massive budget cuts are necessary for all US cities to remain afloat. the police and fire departments consume a LOT of each cities budget. So to appear NEEDED, these cops are setting up entrapment schemes to justify remaining on the job or avoiding budget cuts...sorta like those white firemen in California that set the forest on fire when they learned their departments were about to be cut.... thankfully they were caught.
