Keith, any Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwoʻole stories while in Hawaii?

I`ve read that IZ was more or less like Hawaiian royalty and that he was an incredible human being.  Did you ever get a chance to meet him before he died.  Any good stories?

I always imagined that song being sung by an obese black woman.... Guess i was wrong  :-\
