Hey, Keith, your stories with that Han-D-Gas device were probably the funniest ever posted on Getbig. Too bad you didn't have that device with in Vegas when Goodrum was posing with Billy Guns on that table. Now that would have been the stuff of legends had you used it then. Goodrum would never have recovered!

Mrs. Nordberg, I promise you that not one member of this police force will not rest for one minute until we find who did this and put them behind bars.

Now, lets go grab a bite to eat...

I am glad I was able to be on this planet as the same time as Leslie.  Some of my best childhood memories are watching Airplane and all of the rest of the movies over and over again.  A true comic genius with perfect, absolutely perfect timing.   In fact, The Naked Gun was the last movie my dad took me to see before he died.

Yea, I gotta agree that Leslie Nielsen was very funny and  made me laugh quite a bit.

But some credit for Mr Nielsen's ability to garner laughter should go to those writers who developed those very funny 'skits' and lines of dialogue.

"Don't call me Shirley!"
"Let's go to lunch!"

And so many others!

Leslie Nielsen put life in them and made them funny with the help of the writers lead-in dialogue.

I bet those writers were on that set every time Leslie Nielsen spoke one of those funny lines, just to insure that he said it correctly. And I bet that camera recorded those lines in no less than 12 takes each ....  just to make sure that they got they got the one take that got the biggest laugh.

Anyone know who they were and if they are still writing similar movie scripts? They seldom get the credit that they deserve.

The only other time I recall laughing just as hard was while watching Tim Conway on those old Carol Barnett TV shows.

I recently had the opportunity to attempt to develop some funny/humorous 'skits'/scenes for a forthcoming major motion picture and to the best of my knowledge 4 of our 8 or so recommendations were actually used in the film.  (Bound to secrecy until it is released.)

And will I get credit for helping out?! ....... NOPE!

Had a free lunch though!

Actually writers are very rarely on set.  Script Supervisors are there to make sure you read what is wrote.  The Director is there to tell you how HE wants it to be read.  Any deviation in what is actually used is written on the script and log.  Sometimes it might sound better using "Hey Honey" rather than "Hey Babe" the way the writer wrote it.  So they change it.  The way Leslie delivered his lines was the way he felt best doing it.  He spent 20+ years as a serious actor and stepped into comedy.  His timing and delivery are his trademark not the writers at all.  And every show has writers.  Even the Carol Burnett Show.  It is just that because of the genius of Tim Conway and Carol and everyone else it most often went everywhere.  Same thing with Mork.  Robin Williams was famous for not using a script and improving everything.  The other actors had to read their lines and just wait to see what Robin would do and then read there next line.  That must have been nuts working with him

Exactly.  Larry David performs in the same manner without any script, mostly improvised off of each other.

Some of the best comedy movies ever are bcuz of him.  That Creepshow clip was really cool to see in this thread.  I never knew of his serious work.  He played a great villian too.  I just love the guy to death.......haha.  He delivers lines like noone else I can think of.  Just an amazing comedic actor and apparently more, but I just never knew.  One of very few celebrities that deserves to be missed. He is right up there with Steve Martin as far as comedy actors go.  We were blessed to exist during his time IMO.  RIP!

Airplane movies were my fav growing up and i still burst laughing when they come on. Some of the greatest lines from those movies:

"Joey, have you ever seen a grown man naked?"

and of course
