Anyone here a personal trainer?
« on: December 07, 2010, 06:48:31 PM »
Seems like a sleazy business, but I'm desperate for a job. :(

Not sure if I have the right personality for it.  If anyone has experience with this sort of job I'd love to hear your thoughts!

I tried doing it for awhile but I'm not much of a salesman I discovered. You have to have a good personality and have the ability to talk people into wasting their money.

as a person involved in the scam industry, I can tell you what i tell all perspective trainers:  forget about being a trainer and get a real job/start selling drugs

This is what I expected. :(

Thanks for the answer.  What is it about PT that makes it such a sham?  I look at the trainers in my gym and the pathetic workouts people are doing and think "wtf why would anyone pay for this??!"  Is it that the trainers have good intentions but the clients are lazy?  Is it that you can say everything you need to in a couple sessions, but need to sell more sessions to stay in business?  Something else?

actually, i'll just say simply that a trainer is just a baby sitter for adults.  The acception to this is anyone who trains athletes or do rehab work.

Other than that, you're just a guy who sells a shmuck on why they should pay you 80 a hour for you to count reps and wear nice sneakers

I have a degree in health, physical education , and recreation. I have no idea what the hell to do with it. Frankly I was a duche bagge who thought I would be a personal trainer the rest of my life and spend all my time In a gym. Well I kind of grew out of that.

honestly, i'm only doing 9 appointments a week but that is because i'm too lazy to prospect new clients.  Plus, rumor has it that I may be going into a outpatient rehab in the new year and I don't want to take on new clients until after i get out

and yeah- you can make very good money if you do 20-40 hours a week.....the thing is it takes like a year or two to build up that clientele

it's good to have the degrees but PERSONAL TRAINING IS ALL ABOUT SALES.

You're doing great. Maybe next you can hit the big time and work as a janitor cleaning up people's shit and piss for big money.

I shouldn't talk though, i've worked like 12 shit jobs before. My first job was making pizzas.

wow, are you.............me?

i got   degree in kinesiology.........and i dont know WTF to do with it

i thought, well i dont know what i thought i would do........maybe be  a chiropractor (which is also a scam)

the thing about personal trainers is.........the fact that i got a 4 year degree from a very well respected university doesnt guarantee i will make any more money as a personal trainer then some fuck-douche that got an online certification........its all about how many clients you can trick into working with you

adn i am WAY overqualified ot be a personal trainer.........i should be better off then some idiot who got some alphabet cert for 150$ one weekedn
