Does your inflammation hurt?  They have drugs nowadays called Zovirax in the UK which zaps cold sores.  Thankfully I only ever get it on my lips, and only at Christmas or New Year when I have to kiss everyone.  Just get over it.  I've not had it full-on for 5 years now, think I might have gotten over it.  I used to get massive cold sores 10 years ago, but I was ever so very careful. Nowadays they have the drugs to kill it.  You can actually feel it coming, a day or two after Xmas and you're really run down and you can feel the welt about to land on your smile, so you just whack the Zovirax cream on.  It tingles.  One day max.  

Herpes I sorted.  Hope you don't have the type II?
