Dream Act
« on: December 08, 2010, 08:08:43 PM »
It passed the House. I'm in a time crunch, can someone get the voting list so we can see who sold the legal citizens of this nation completely out?

Oh there you go again!

I just read it was these fucking assholes who voted with Pelosi. This will cost America even more. Wonderful.

--Cribbed from Red State--

Cao of LA (Thank God he lost!!)
Castle of DE (Thank God he’s gone!!)
Diaz-Balart, L. (Cuban Americans have specific ethnic reasons for being soft on immigration, obviously)
Diaz-Balart, M. (ditto)
Djou (I’m now not sorry he’s gone…)
Ehlers (Thank God he’s gone!)
Inglis (Thank God he was beaten in a Primary!!)
Ros-Lehtinen (Cuban American - see above)

So, basically, it was 5 quite literal losers, and 3 unbeatable Cuban Americans (actually, just 2, as one of them is retiring).

ahhh politico has it:

After a two-hour floor debate, the House passed the DREAM Act along mostly partisan lines, 216 to 198, with 38 Democrats voting against the bill and 8 Republicans supporting it.

But in the waning days of the lame-duck session, Senate Republicans have vowed to filibuster any legislation unrelated to the expiring Bush-era tax cuts and the funding of the government. Even proponents conceded they haven’t secured the 60 votes needed to move the bill forward in the Senate.

However, House Democrats hope that passing the bill in their chamber first will provide some momentum for Senate passage. In discussions Wednesday, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) personally urged Reid to postpone the Senate vote until Thursday, said a senior Democratic aide.

“If the bill had gone down in the Senate first, it would have been very hard to get it across the finish line in the House,” the aide said.

Stalled in Congress for the past decade, the DREAM Act would provide “green cards” – and eventually the opportunity for citizenship — to some illegal immigrants who were brought to the country as children — if they attend college or join the military for two years.

it's disgusting.

senate repubs have a duty to KEEP THEIR WORD and filibuster the shit out of it.

however, methinks they'll promise it for 2 weeks, then christmastime will arrive and they'll all vote absent, and this bill will slip thru.

Get on the record mates... do you think this is possible?  Repubs in senate vow to stop it, then don't bother stopping it?  Allowing it to pass without getting on the record?

I dont think it will pass, at least not right now and if it does I think it will be under the guise of reaching across the aisle...I doubt it passes though

i'm betting dec 23-dec 28 we see this thing slip thru.

and i'm betting repubs defend it by saying "those sneaky dems waiting to vote on it until we were all on vacation".

Hey, jackasses, you get plenty of vacation time - if the dems do try it, you fly your ass in, vote for 2 hours, and then go home.

I see this shit a mile away :(  I bet it passes, and amnesty part 1 is implemented.  and the repubs know they NEED to filibuster to stop it - and i dont think they will.  Then, they'll all act surprised if dems vote, and they won't bother stopping it.

Senate Republicans should filibuster.  I don't like the idea of a lame duck Congress passing legislation like this, particularly when many of the members have been fired.

So what is this? One last fuck you to the American people? I don't get it, the majority of Americans are against it, I have yet to meet a legal immigrant who is for amnesty for illegals. As a matter of fact legal immigrants are more anti-illegal than most of those born in America. Whats the end game? trying to create a new block of democrat voters.

This in itself should show everyone in this country that these people do not care what you think. They do not represent you.

Pelosi Equates DREAM Act To Founding Fathers Winning Independence
realclearpolitics ^

Outgoing Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi says the DREAM Act represents the new "American dream."

"In coming here, these new comers, from that time a couple hundred years ago and to this day, by coming with that optimism and hope and commitment to a better future for the next generation, they made America more American. So tonight, we have an opportunity to identify with the aspirations of our founders," Pelosi said on the House floor prior to the vote.

They need 60 to pass it. If all the GOP goes home, they don't have 60. Plus, without reconciliation/nuclear option, they can't pass it with a simple majority.

I have family members who immigrated here from another country. And, they had to cough up much cash to become legal citizens.

This DREAM act is a joke. I mean look at the options: Attend college for two years (notice nothing is said about actually GRADUATING) or join the military.

Hmmm....if I'm an illegal alien in California, what do I do? Party and chase booty as USC for two years or join the Army or get shot at in Afghanistan?

Geee.....there's a tough one!!!

Pelosi has to be brain dead, I like how these people like to try to always associate their less than honorable motives with the founders. They have no idea what the constitution says let alone the federalist papers.

Democrats deserve all the blame. Why are they still pushing this legislation against the will of the LEGAL CITIZENS of this nation?

This is exactly why Pelosi's approval rating has fallen by something like 60 points since she came to power. Dumb far-left c*nt.

240 is still sore because at the last Republican primary in which he voted, his paper ballot write in of "Bobby Bouche" and "Ricky Bobby" was rejected at his local polling place.
