I don't think so.  He was his all time biggest for this tournament, but all his opponents are some most elite fighters there are.  Spong is considered the next Ernesto Hoost.
alright probably wrong then. just looked slow to me.

why isn't Fedor fighting him?  they are in the same org?

I don't understand the guys who don't use steroids, or don't use much, or don't take weight training seriously.  When I see alistair overeem get into the ring with his opponent, half the time the matchup looks like a bad joke.  I understand having a lot of muscle doesn't help past a certain degree, but IT CERTAINLY SEEMS TO HELP when taken to alistair's level.  Nonetheless, half the time his opponent looks like a pillsbury dough boy or a little kid.  It's just embarassing.  His excellent physical condition obviously gives him an edge, and apparently he has the fighting skill as well, so why do guys think they can just come in with shit physiques and bank on their technique?

he developed his mass without losing his speed and explosiveness, if he would have only gotten bigger he would've waisted his time.

You have no idea how good in shape allistair is if you think his size is the only one that happent there... his everything happent, everything is bigger with him now, not just raw strength.

How you look doesn't mean jack shit when the bell rings. Overeem has lost every single big fight against legit competition he has ever had in his entire fighting career (MMA wise).

Brock Lesnar is another example of how being a musclebound bufoon doesn't mean anything.

Overeem is a good fighter, but he is by no means a great fighter and he has been owned by what most on this site would consider smaller, fatter, unaesthetically pleasing fighters.

how many losses does he have after he got big? and agains who? :)

let me help you,

Hasn't lost in MMA since 2007 (8 wins since then) and has only been beaten twice in k-1 since 2004 (9 wins since then) and that was against Badr hari (early stoppage and someone he has beaten before) and against bonjansky.

KINDA decent huh?!?!?  ???  ::) lol.

cant wait until he fights someone at the top in mma though.

Exactly-- and when he was at a lower weight he was still juiced to the gills and got his ass kicked practically every time he fought. So far his toughest opponent at HW has been Brett Rogers and a 79 year old Fujita. Not exactly the best of the best. He is a good fighter, but lets be fair. He hasn't done much of anything in MMA besides lose to top ranked guys.

I wish Saki was fit for that fight. He was lighting Alistair up with one hand and no ribcage lol. Ghita is looking very dangerous at the moment too.

This is what I'm saying though -- he's obviously in very good physical shape, and you can tell just by looking at him.  I don't mean to imply his muscle mass is responsible for his success; i'm just using it as the most obvious sign of his overall superior physical condition.  His opponents all look like either smaller, weaker versions of him with no discernible difference in speed, endurance, power, or any other trait as far as I can tell (like I said though, I'm no expert), or like flat out dough mongers who, if they shed the pounds, would look like a smaller, weaker version of alistair.

I understand that fighting skill counts for a lot, but I believe most of these fighters should still take their steroid use and weight training more seriously.  Why would you want to come into a fight against an opponent who is bigger, faster, stronger, more powerful, and able to take more damage, fighting prowess aside?????   Even if he has lost to these "smaller, fatter, unaesthetically pleasing fighters," I'm sure he would have lost EVEN WORSE had they been in as good of shape as him.  It just doesn't make sense to me.

I don't know much about brock, but what I do know is that most people criticize his fighting skill, and fear his mass, speed, power, and fighting spirit.  He was a world champion, and maybe he wouldn't have been had his competition been in the same shape he had, instead of looking like tiny children in his presence?

And for all these guys who come into fights fat, WTF?  How is that beneficial in any way?

the loses he suffered was when he was cutting weight to 205lbs...something a 6"5'' guy with muscle shouldn't be doing...he was so depleted a strong breeze could have knocked him over at times...

Well, that's another conversation. Allowing steroid use in MMA wouldn't bother me very much, but unfortunetly there's no way it would happen fighting in American organizations. My only point was that physical appearence means jack shit and does not guarantee that a juiced up physical specimen won't be owned by a soft looking fighter.

Maybe-- but even at 205 he was ripped to shreds and obviously on something. Until he beats some legit fighters at HW, my opinion of him isn't going to change.

I trust George Whorewell in MMA-related things. I bet against him in the Brock vs Cain fight and lost, so it's obvious he knows this shit.

George, Dana recently said the same thing, that Overeem hasn't done anything in MMA and that ranking him high just because he is a great K-1 fighter is ridiculous. Of course, Dana said this because Overeem is not in the UFC, but still he has a point.

Personally, I take a balanced view. I think Overeem's superb technical striking, long reach and great take-down defenses would allow him to probably win a lot of fights despite his defective ground game and be a top 5 heavyweight like JDS. However, I could see him being taken down to the ground and being smothered or submitted a lot by elite grapplers or wrestlers and him being barely a top 10 fighter.

Shows what a stupid ass punk you are.  Overeem won the ADCC Euro trials all by submission.

Overeem would submit Fedor at will when they trained...
