FOX NEWS: Steele reportedly quitting as RNC chair
« on: December 13, 2010, 06:03:24 AM »
UPDATE: Michael Steele will not be seeking re-election as RNC chair, FoxNews.com reports, and plans to announce Monday that he will drop out of the contested race.

Original story unfolds below

On Monday, Republican National National Committee chairman Michael Steele plans to reveal whether he will seek reelection for another term, according to a published report.

Steele on Saturday evening emailed a note to committee members for warning of the upcoming major announcement.

“Dear Members, Please join me for a private conference call, Monday December 13th at 7:30pm (EST),'" he wrote. "For your personal conference code please RSPV to ... Thank you, and I look forward to talking to you Monday evening. Michael.”

Steele's supporters told Politico that they expect him not to seek reelection next month. A key sign that he will step down is that he has yet to gather a reelection team with which to face the growing number of challengers for his job.

Since being elected the first African-American GOP chairman in January 2009, Steele has embarrassed party loyalists with his poor fundraising and messaging abilities. He has also been a frequent target of the late night talk show circuit.

"Chairman Steele was actually scheduled to be a guest on this program back on January 18," The Daily Show's Jon Stewart explained to his audience in August. "But he had to cancel because it conflicted with him, um, deciding he did not want to be on the show any more

Steele was a stupid knee-jerk reaction of bringing in a "black guy" because Obama got elected.  and he proved it...

What do you think of Palin in that spot?  ;D

News keep getting better for the Republicans. Reps whooped the Dems on Nov.1, more polls keep showing Obama's job approval keeps slipping, Obama and the Dems can't get their terrible legislations through, and now Steele will quit. If this keeps up there won't be any problems for Reps in 2012.

Good decision.  Anytime people spend more time talking about the chair rather than the party he/she has become a distraction.

But despite the criticism and what anyone might think of him, the 2010 Republican takeover happened on his watch.

True. One of the few things he can look back and be happy about.

Well, our token black guy did much better than the Dem's token black guy that's for damn sure. If Steele was President and Obama was the RNC chair, the country would be in much better shape and the RNC would have dissolved 6 months ago.

No.  He didn't.  This isn't a case/effect.  Steele could have retired in 2009 and the tsunami still would have happened.

In fact - wasn't he in terrible fundraising shape just a few months ago, thanks to paying for lesbian junkets and being a buffoon?  Haley barbour was the real hero, and the ability to donate to anonymous 501s completely wrecked the dems.

Steele can't take credit... the results were gonna happen, DESPITE his "leadership"

well duh :)

Seriously, a 6-week-old molten pool of steel exceeding the temperature possible with jet fuel could have led the GOP to a win in 2010.

Steele taking credit was embarassing.  barbour deserved the credit - the donations spoke for themselves.

FOX GOT IT WRONG.

Michael Steele seeks RNC second term

Washington (CNN) -- Michael Steele announced Monday that he will seek a second term as chairman of the Republican National Committee, according to several committee members who took part in a private conference call with him.

The chairman, whose tenure has been marred by controversial public statements and questions about his handling of party finances, has remained mum about his future in recent weeks as several candidates have lined up to replace him.

One of Steele's top allies on the committee, Wisconsin GOP chairman Reince Priebus, has entered the race to replace him as chairman.

Along with Priebus, Michigan committeeman Saul Anuzis and former Missouri chairwoman Ann Wagner also are officially in the race.

NOW we get to see if those in the party have any faith in him, or if they realize it was momentum he inherited, didn't foster, that led to huge gains.

Here is the original story.

RNC Chairman Steele to Announce Intentions on a Second Term
Published December 12, 2010
FoxNews.com

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele will speak with RNC members Monday evening in which he is expected to announce a decision about whether to make another run for the party chairmanship. A handful of well-placed and influential RNC insiders tell Fox News they expect Steele to announce he is not running for re-election.

But Steele has been unpredictable, especially over recent weeks, and some close to the GOP chairman say he wants to run for another term and is struggling to find enough support for a second term.

Fox News confirmed Steele sent an e-mail to committee members Saturday night with the subject line, "conference call."

In the note, he asked members to join him "for a private conference call" Monday evening.

Republicans picked up 63 seats in the House, narrowed the gap in the Senate and picked up 19 state legislative bodies in the November midtem election, but pressure has been mounting all year for Steele to step down from the position.

Critics have described the chairman as gaffe-prone and said he hasn't raised enough money. The criticism has resulted in an array of challenges or potential challenges for Steele's job from Wisconsin Republican Party Chairman Reince Priebus, former RNC Co-Chairwoman Ann Wagner, longtime Republican official Maria Cino, former Michigan Republican Party Chairman Saul Anuzis and former RNC Political Director Gentry Collins.

Steele didn't deliver shit.  The GOP would have won seats without his bullshit antics all year long.

Dude is a total incompetent fuck stain that should have been booted long ago.  He was the GOPs token black guy attempt at meeting Obama's rise to the POTUS.

He deserves absolutely no credit for any seat won in 2010.  That was all because of Dem resentment.

I personally am glad people are largely donating to individual candidates now as opposed to the party.

I send a few dollars to rand paul directly and was glad to do it.

As for Steeel - it is what it is.  I dont think anyone votes for person based on the party chairmen.

Hopefully he will stick to that debt ceiling promise!

As for Steeel - it is what it is.  I dont think anyone votes for person based on the party chairmen.

he's not about votes - his job is about raising money.  He was shitty at it.  People mistrusted him use of it - and chose to give it to individual candidates instead, which hurts the party.  See, a polarizing moron like ODonnell with zero chance of being elected received millions of dollars and wasted it (still has a million left she couldn't spend! HAHA).

Had the money gone to the RNC - what people used to do when they trusted the party chair - he could have seen her trailing by 18 points with a week to go - and put that $ into a race like Reid in nevada or another close one.

Beyond his antics and sheer stupidity and obnoxious - he wasn't all that original.

::)  You intentionally omitted the headline from the story and replaced with a misleading headline.  You said he was "quitting" when he was reportedly not seeking reelection.  You intentionally didn't quote the Fox News story, because it contradicted your fabricated title.  Then you said Fox News got it wrong.  lol . . .

But that's nothing new.
