It's bizarre, and not necessarily socially acceptable, but it wouldn't be illegal in the UK. In other countries maybe but I'm just looking at it from a domestic standpoint. A 17 year old isn't classed as a minor and can have sex without a parents consent, so technically it's not pedophilia nor a sex offense no matter the age of the other party involved. You could turn the question on its head and ask why would a 17 year old want to be with a 57 year old?
