Most Gym rats could do 10 reps at 500 when loaded on gear so I guess not bad for a little guy. ;)

Yeah, but for a guy whos on grams of androgens and other expensive recovery agents, thats not amazing. I'm surprised quite regularly by what people think is heavy for squats on forums. Its starts of course at it lowest at BBing.com where your a monster if you can handle 315+ and here, 450 for reps is something to point out???
Just posted earlier this week, the video of the UCLA training room showed dozens of kids under 22years old, without belts on and without argument, far less in the juice department do triples with weight around that and more... Is anyone else with me on this? And, those were not full squats, although most to parallel.

Exactly. I could fullsquat 315 for reps when I was 17. I rarely ever see anyone training legs like they should.

for those that dont think it is all that impressive.. please remember that he did this after 12 sets of hamstring work and verticle leg presses.. if he did squats first we would be looking at larger numbers.. it is still extremely impressive..

He's stocky, low center of gravity. These builds excell at lifting.  ::)

I'm a firm believer in progressive overload, however look at those guys in those videos legs. Look at most powerlifters legs. They don't look like a bodybuilders. They aren't huge. For some reason going super heavy on squats just doesn't produce gains like going a bit higher reps and feeling the muscle. Not to mention the fact that doing squats like that is treacherous on the knees. Can you find some powerlifters with big legs? The biggest legs are usually on guys who build their rep capacity, and are able to do big weight for tons of reps instead of massive weight for singles doubles and triples.

Absofuckinglylutely...  But that was after 4 sets of heavy leg extensions and 3-4 sets of high rep squats... And after going super heavy he went on to do 3 or 4 sets of high rep leg press....   Using huge weight on all his exercises, and high reps on every set ecxcet the one where he squats 800 for 2 or 3...

Squats are more of an ass and ham builder than quad builder, just ask Dr. Squat, Mr. Fred Hatfield ;D

tbombz is right.. i owned a few gyms.. i saw many guys squat perfect form but very heavy and have so so legs.. the guys that squatted moderate weight for 12-15 reps seemed to have the better legs in the long run.. legs do require a bit more volume in terms of reps.. ill take hides legs over any one of the powerlifters in the videos..  hide is only 230lb.. again, doing that weight after all the ham work and verticle leg presses is very impressive..

The biggest legs are usually on guys who build their rep capacity, and are able to do big weight for tons of reps instead of massive weight for singles doubles and triples.

Powerlifters generally dont have big legs (big in relation to their squatting #s) because they squat with a low bar, wide stance technique, which has the hips as dominant muscles. Quadriceps are not dominant in a PL squat. However, when we are looking at olympic lifters they (almost) all seem to have huge, developed quads. This is because they squat highbar, close stance, and ass to the grass, all while being in an upright position. Squatting this way is quad dominant. Oh btw, they almost never squat "high rep" but keep their working repranges in the 1-6 reps.

Hope this helps. :)
