In 2001, I thought the evil scumbag bin Laden probably deserved it - because giving it to Rudy (whose contribution was a series of speeches responding to the world-changing event Bin laden caused) seemed to be just the more popular thing to do.
IMO, this is a case of the same thing. Assange has done something on a worldwide basis which has never been done, and will probably never be done again. He's risking his life for what he belives is right. He's revealing history that will be studied for centuries to come - imagine a 'wikileaks' during the middle of WWII or Vietnam. Assange is doing something huge ona global scale.
Zuckerberg bas been doing facebook for almost a decade. IMO, he's the man of the year because he was in a movie, and it's a safe choice. TIME catering to magazine sales over choosing the unpopular d-bag who is making history and an amazing impact.
