Actually in American politics the conservatives have done a great job smearing the left with common misconceptions. They have created the notion of the EMOOOOOOOTIONAL LIIIIIBERAALLLL when it's usually the conservatives that get all butt hurt talking about topics like gay marriage, family values, etc. I tend to notice hypocrisy rests largely on their side of the spectrum (see senator craig). They like to restrict the freedoms of our personal lives and tell us who we can have sex with and what we can put in our bodies. They also like to allow the top 1% of the country get wealthier why they drain the middle class and lower classes and label it "trickle down economics". Most people in American politics are conservative. Even the democrats. You see alot of "blue dog democrats" (conservatives under the guise of liberals).
It seems like most people tend to think politics -and life in general- is like a football game, they can't find a reason to think harder than that
