They would not have been for raised taxes, but that's not why the people largely in both parties would have been against it.  Americans as a whole were largely against entering the war for a long time.  It took some tricky maneuvers and hefty propaganda to get us involved.

333, just answer the guy's questions.  If you want to make a statement of it, answer the guys questions and then make your statement.

The "GOP" back then was quite a bit different than the GOP that we see now, same goes for Democrats.

but if here were president today with the same objectives, the right would have no problem finding things to attack him on.  In other areas of his presidency, you're right.

Raising taxes on small business owners who make 250k is one of the most idiotic things I have ever heard of, well not really, "Hope & Change" in 2008, really takes the cake.

Dumb. Why should a very small part of the population shoulder any more than they already do? Why is it fair that 45% (and climbing) of the nation, at the end of the tax day, pay zero income tax and actually receive money back from the govt.? Why is that fair? Because they're "filthy rich"? The "filthy rich" pay half of the income taxes in this country, is that fair? Do you like having a completely unbalanced tax structure? Your reasoning is silly, shortsighted and shallow.

Just because someone makes more than you doesn't give you the right to demand more of their money be taken out of spite and some weird class warfare thing.

They already do.  How much more do you want?    50% is not enough between Fed, Local, FICA, etc?

Deficits must be fixed? So the deficits will be all fixed up and good to go from 70 billion dollars of additional tax revenue per fiscal year? What will the govt. then do to take care of the other 1.43 trillion dollar part of the deficit? Tax the "filthy rich" up to 75%?

Who needs it isn't the question. Taxes as they are currently structured are totally fucked, unbalanced, unfair and anti-growth. The Class Warfare that many like to wage is a giant distraction and a huge red herring.

1. No it will not fix the deficit but it will help

2. This is not class warfare this is common sence. The rich are rich they wont notice if they get a couple of less millions in on their account each year however the money can be used better elsewhere

No, it won't help because the government will find other stupid ways to irresponsibly spend the additional revenue from higher taxes. I.E. Obamacare, "shovel ready projects"..

It is class warfare. A couple of less millions? The way government throws away money it won't be long before even the filthy rich are forced to leave USA. To punish success even more is ridiculous. The answer is to have smaller government and reduce expenses by the government. Not to infinitely raise taxes on the wealthy.

Ok whork. Why dont we just tax all the billionares 100% and confiscate thier entire property? That would equal $1.4 trillion and would pay off this year's entire deficit.
