I went to college because my parents drilled into my head that I was going...and there was no argument in that... i learned alot

So, FB guy is a billionaire, yet he may not be as rich in personality (which is why he developed facebook in the firstplace---to meet women), and he has a frumpy girlfriend. Many of us look at the people in a one dimensional way---that the person has money. But are the pressures more greater to keep that money, that image?

And how many college graduates you know are billionaires? ;D

You're acting like any college degree holder is automatically hired as 90 mill/yr hedgefund-manager. Being rich and successfull like that is unlikely either way, with or without degree. As realistic as winning the lottery.

That was never my point. Citing a billionaire is a bad example, as it's so rare, no one really has the chance to become one. The vast majority of "rich" people went to college.

I'm not acting like anything, I'm stating that you have a better chance of becoming a millionaire with a college education vs. without.

My brother-in-law works for a NYC hedge as an analyst, and you would be laughed out of the interview of any major hedge if you went to a state school nevermind didn't have a degree + mba from Ivy or Wharton. Are massive comanies like GE hiring college drop outs? Presidents all dropping out of Boise State? Or are these people going to schools like Harvard and Yale?

I'm not saying you NEED to go to college, I'm saying that it gives you a better chance of making a lot of money.

what about the great pedigrees of all the hedge fund managers that blow up every year?
bernie madoff made billions, but in the end was just a thief whose song hung himself.  he was also a college dropout.

if i started what i do now out of high school, i'd be 200 k richer (assuming i lived at home, made 50k/year starting out) if i just put it into savings without investing.  but i lost 4 years of my life and whatever in state tuition (that i paid off, thank god).

but i have 4 years of experience and can form a sentence, which most of the people i'm around every day can't.  so i don't know, i guess i break even.

i have a 4 year degree that i have no use for (political science).  my sister just graduated law school, has 160k in debt, is 26 years old, and has no job and lives in momma's basement.

she was shocked that after getting into all that debt, not once did they tell her how she'll make that money.  so, you have to have initiative and a huge nutsack to make it.

my wife's friend has a law degree from harvard and can currently be seen serving beer at a popular bar chain.  why?  cuz she's a dork loser who chokes at job interviews.

Depends on the fund. Bridgewater recruits from state schools, the CEO went to some dumpy undergrad school (Harvard MBA, though) and they're arguably one of the five most successful HFs on the planet. But I agree with the rest of your post.  8)

Very, very few people get rich or wealthy working for someone else...they key is having the balls, motivation, persistence and smarts to run your own business...It's really not that hard if you have the brains...

It can be done.

1) Commit to the job. Work weekends and holidays, if you are offered gigs around the world, take them because they pay you more. That alone will double your income, meaning easy 25-30 $/h. This kind of money is easily accessible to the blue collar workers, with no much education needed. That's amazing.
2) Save every penny. This is harder. Most won't make it this far.
3) Buy stock, invest, and be smart about it.

To me that's easy.  ;D

Ok. But the argument is that you are more likely to become rich with a college degree which is true.

Bill gets is an extreme - extreme.

Bill Gates is not the world's richest man.

I'm talking about the great majority of the population. Most people think that without college it's hard to succeed and make money. Which is false.

Without college it is hard to find a GOOD CAREER.

Anyone can go to college and put in hard time and hard work to become (insert high paying profession)

I'm talking about your everyday entrepreneur that makes money.
My buddy made $10K profit selling fucking toothbrushes online...last week. Fucker got his GED after dropping out of high school. Great majority of college grads starting out do not make $10K in 3 months.

THe point is college does not teach you how to become rich and make BIG money. College teaches you how to get into a career that you will have to be in for 30 years.

There is no education to school anyone to become really rich.
It's all about having a great idea and able to adapt that in real life to make cash flowing. The idea can be anything if it works.

Or you can just become F1-racer or pro bodybuilder.

That's my point... you can't learn intangible things like that in college. Everyone that finds out how this kid makes his money just bust out laughing because it's so silly. Getting rich selling toothbrushes...wtf.

95% of people are sheep. They think the only way to get rich is to hit it big in the lotto, invest in stock market, pro athlete, actor...etc. It's the out of the box eccentric thinkers who are risk takers that make it big...you don't need school to make you a big thinker.

It's not even about having that "million dollar idea" ...it goes beyond that.

In one way, you kind of sort of understand the big picture, but, in another way, you're completely off.

You seem like a smart young man phuck, so let's put it in simple terms for the "rest" of the folks here.

College is like learning to play chess from someone.  The person teaching you will explain the rules and teach you how to simply play the game, but what they won't teach you is how to become an effective winner at the game or, even better yet, how to beat them at their own game.  Why?  Because by doing so, they will give away that same skill that places them in demand and once they do that, they destroy their own worth and end up nowhere.

The only problem with your statement is that you assume that any ambitious youngster even without a college degree, but with enough chutzpah can pick up and, with just the right amount of luck and determination, become a millionaire.

Sadly, in today's world, having a college degree is kind of like the accepted standard for employment in most jobs. There was a time when just knowing how to read and write could get you a job in most places, then a high school diploma became the basic standard, followed by a GED and now a 4-year college degree is the "least" you could have to get your ass in the door for a very basic position.

Today, companies and even small business owners don't want to risk losing money on hiring someone that won't become a proven asset for their company/workplace, someone who can give them a decent return on the time and overall investment they place into you.  While having a college degree is no guarantee, it sure makes them feel a little more at ease than just hiring some Riffraff off the street.

I went to college and it was a big mistake. Didn't really get me anything. I wish I would have just hustled and worked hard out of high school instead of fucking around at college for years.

College in the USA is fun and you learn a lot of "interesting" things. But not much practical skills.

You're missing my point.
FUCK working for someone else. That's my point.

I know better than to think anyone with work ethic and luck can become a millionaire. Also, luck is bullshit. There is no luck. Luck = hard work and opportunity that you create for yourself through consistency.

There is no one formula for becoming a millionaire, because if there was...everyone would be one.
If you read books about ultra rich, millionaires, successful people ...really studying them you can see patterns.

If you go to college to earn a bullshit degree in fluff you will certainly have that mentality.  If you go to college and get a Bachelor's degree in something practical like Accounting, you can then make a living without having to sell yourself and a make-believe degree to some potential employer by describing the amount of potential you have if only given a chance.

You have to realize that the holder of world's richest position changes rapidly. Mainly because their fortunes consist of exchange traded securities, whose values are determined in every second when exchanges are open.

It's basically between Warren Buffett (Teh Greatest of them), Gates and this Slim dude.

Bill Gates quit college and he has more money than God.

College is mostly to show people that you can actually finish something.

About 80% of the majors are fluff. Something like accounting is practical, you're right.

 The options are very limited.

it doesn't change rapidly....bill gates has held it for 10 years...with a 3 month mulligan....

the best thing you can do with a college education?..pad your resume with the degree, and forget all the bullshit they ever told you...use the resume to get a job with someone who actually knows what the hell they are talking about....because a college professor sure as hell doesn't....that's why they teach theory's, and not facts...
