Congress Screws the People: The Lifter Even More!
JustinEdwards on Dec 24th, 2010

Readers may ask why this is important information at first glance but of all things to discuss here this may indeed be one of the most important yet.

In the beginning it looked as if it would be defeated but I’m sorry to say the nightmare is real. The Food Safety Modernization Act S.510 has now passed both houses of congress and is set to be signed into law by president Obama before Christmas. Why is this important and why should you care? As someone who has an interest in training and lifting and all that encompasses and as regulations become tighter on performance enhancing drugs across the globe, this legislation in the U.S. could indeed have a far more reaching effect on the trainer than any law so far.

The “EXCUSE” for this legislation was brought forth due to the few instances of tainted foods that hit the shelves the past few years; most notably a very small percentage of eggs and beef and a fair amount of spinach. This new legislation will extend the power and reach of the FDA beyond oversight and directly into powerful regulation; you might say the FDA is now on steroids! Of course as we all know, government works best when it has far reaching power beyond its intent (Sarcasm Intended.)

It has been common practice for the FDA to regulate food when outbreaks occur; most would agree this is good; if a producer brings forth tainted food they should be required to fix it and no producer is purposely going to deliver tainted food; like all business, food production desires to bring forth a good product. However, now the FDA has the power to regulate beforehand.

I know what you’re thinking “so what? We want quality, safe food.” Of course you do and again, no food producer wants to give you tainted beef or eggs; if you’re throwing-up after each bite of beef you won’t buy that beef anymore. But what is this new legislation going to do to prices? What else, drive them through the roof! The oversight on food production is now going to be so overreaching, the cost of meat alone is suspected to increase double at best; maybe higher.

Keep in mind as well, now the same government that recommends you only eat around 40 grams of protein per day is regulating every aspect of food production. Do you really think this is going to end well?

The only saving grace is the new incoming congress has vowed to cut federal spending. If they are to hold to this promise it will cripple the FDA and make this new legislation irrelevant. However, legislation already signed into law by a supporting president will make it a battle of brutal proportions. There is also a chance of a repeal of the law when the new congress takes power and even though a longshot it’s worth fighting for. When the new congress takes over and if you still want to be able to afford the foods you need for your training, I urge you to contact congress and tell them to repeal this horrendous law. To find contact information for your elected officials, go to http://www.usa.gov/Contact/Elected.shtml

Won't affect me.  I'm gonna do what I'm gonna do whether it's against the law or not.

Of course it will affect you, it will make your grocery bill increase and increase. Saul Alinsky has said several times things needed to be done to "nudge" people towards eating less meat...Alinsky is a vegetarian...this would be that nudge.

They will start by first nailing the Trucking Industry.

Our buddy Arnie is already imposing doubled fines for Out of Service violations. Not only is he hitting the truckers, he is nailing the companies they work for ten-fold.  The trucking companies are already in competition, so the rates can only go up. The drivers are already being attacked by the FMCSA.

Eventually the driver will be paid more, and the trucking company will get higher rates. Who do you think pays this $$$$$$$????? The consumer. And who always gets a start on things?

The food industry. Not only will their prices go up, the food will start coming in smaller packages (just like before) with labels that are made to make the packages look bigger (just like before).  People need food. People need fuel. People need drugs. People need to have these items transported to them. Not rocket science by any stretch of the imagination.

All of you bunghole burger-slinging butthole builders should start thinking about Class A licenses.... soon.  ;D

"The FDA Food Safety Modernization Act was passed by Senate during a late Sunday night session, and then approved on December 21 by the House of Representatives. The bill was passed in the House with a 215-144 vote, and now will make its way to President Obama where it is expected to be signed into law.... the Bill was unexpectedly sneaked into a Sunday night Senate session, catching aides and lobbyist by surprise. The Senate approved the bill by unanimous consent, sending it to the House. Inserting an amended text of S510 into H.R.2751 (now calling bill S510 HR2751)"

This is a great bill that ensures the food we buy is safe to eat, putting the necessary regulations and oversight into place over the ag/food industry.

If you are against government oversight of business, then you have two options: government takeover of industry, or unregulated markets where no one is guaranteed that what they are buying won't kill them, no one has the responsibility to produce quality goods that match their description.

Obviously jgovernmentoversight/regulation of industry is the best option, allowing for the most freedom while still protecting us from self-interested,short sighted corporations who would take advantage of us, monopolize the market, jack prices up, and decrease quality to the point where it would kill us, all for their own profit.

Looks like they combined two similar bills.  Here is the one waiting for signature by pres.

I don't know how it could be any clearer.

oops... still, do i have to read it all to get the gist?..

no brief summary?

i am guessing that it means that overall foods are safer for consumption?

sounds like a really terrible thing to do. :o

Were foods unsafe for consumption? Has there been massive outbreaks and food poison epidemics? Are millions of Americans starving to death because of a lack of quality food? Is there anyone in America starving because of a lack of quality food?

The answer would be "No" to all of those questions.

So now the government is going to increase spending and increase regulation on something that doesn't need it.

What about ones desire to grow and sell food at their local farmers market? By the wording of this bill that would be against the law. What if I want to grow my own tomatoes as millions of Americans do? According to this bill that would be against the law.

This bill is not only unneeded but a waste of money as well.

Of course it will pass - to the many people who dont even read a bill, the 'Food Safety Act' sound good, and is important because we need safety in our foods, especially after the peanut, egg and broccili outbreaks.

But if someone reads it, more government regulation is just cumbersome and creates more paperwork, higher prices and of course, more government jobs that you need to pay for.

what makes you think you're in control and that you can do anything about it?

voting won't help, protesting won't help... the plan will go through as it's been intended. It will be succesfull, unfortunately. Like it or not.
