2 weeks off?
« on: January 04, 2011, 02:12:56 PM »
How does it make you feel? Do you guys feel guilty?

I have had a few health problems lately, and to be honest, i have had some blood tests recently, and i have a few 'issues', so i am thinking of 'listening to my body' and having a 2 week break from training.

I am also thinking of just having a break from diet and eating what i want (big calories, but clean), to give my body a rest from the low calories it has had for the majority of the year.

I have trained through Christmas, trained hard as usual. I did have a break from training around 10 weeks ago, but obviously with dieting, and low calories, etc... it has taken its toll and i seem to be struggling with a few aspects of my health at the moment.

I am a bit loathe to take a break from training as i only had a break 10 weeks or so ago, but i do just feel genuinely knackered, run down, tired, weak, etc... not to mention the issues with bloods.

I am seeing the doctor tomorrow, which should hopefully improve things.

I just know, that knowing my determination and dedication to training, i will feel guilty if i have time off  :-\

Rest up, sounds like you need it! Your muscles will flatten out a little just because you are not pumping them full of blood. You will probably be surprised once you go back in how much stronger you are! Just remember on your first week back, don't go too heavy and take it easy.

what are the issues with ur blood ?

exercise will never damage you, unless ur issue is high blood pressure.

even then its diet that causes problems not exercise.

please post ur normal diet.

So, youre trying to give this guy "diet" advice?

He said he has some issues with his health he doesnt want to talk about.

What are you trying to do? ruin him completely with your unhealthy advices?

He values his health, unlike you.

he seems to think his health problems are exercise related.

unless he is juicing to the gills he should not have any problems because he exercises - certainly not with blood.

diet is the more likely problem.

i wouldn't let your tiny brain worry about it.

If you are feeling that run down and are having some medial issues, you need to rest. I know it sucks, but in the long run it will be beneficial. You can't progress if you're tired and always sore. Ask anyone who has taken a week or two off, most all will say they came back stronger and more focused.

Thanks everyone... i am a nutritionist so i would like to think i know what i am doing with my diet... the doctors have told me that the stress and physical exertions from training will not do me any good when i have certain problems with my health at the moment... including kidneys.

My kidney function isnt great at the moment...and i am feeling quite exhausted...cold all the time, etc... so the doctor has recommended until i feel better and the blood tests show that there is a marked improvement...especially with the kidney values...that i do not do any form of physical exercise...especially weight training.

He did state that it would be 1 step forward and 2 back...if i were going to train, yet still feel like i do at the moment.

Looks like it could be longer than 2 weeks off at the moment...not sure what i think of that.

It is!

To be honest...my strength has gone recently and i am very very run down, fatigued and generally exhausted, yet still trying to really be intense when training, and then when i am lifting less, and strength has decreased, it makes me feel worse mentally.

So maybe having a break until i am 100%, is a great idea.

do you take steroids ?

high protein intake has been shown to have damaging effects on the kidneys in a select few people.

I hope not, it feels so long at the moment!

No i dont take steroids and i dont think kidney problems have actually been linked with protein intake, apart from in those with pre-existing problems.

It is difficult i have to admit, but then again i want my health back to normality.

yes that's what i was getting at - that perhaps you had an underlying health issue.

its just that i work in the health profession, read a lot of studies on nutrition/diet/health, etc and i have never heard of training effecting bloods.

you definatly sound overtrained and a break would do you good, but if your bloods are showing something bad its not because of training.

can you be more specific regarding the blood results?

Been to see a specialist this morning - his outcome was the same as the doctor i saw last week - complete rest - only light cardio like walking the dog - for the next 4-6 weeks - and after that will depend on blood tests.

Took some pictures with me of various condition/size of my physique over the past 12 months since i started to diet to where i am now - and i have been told to eat - and it is no surprise that i am feeling very tired and exhausted - and have skewed blood test results.
