think about the price of high-end tuna per pound, esp. the japs who make expensive ass sashimi out of it. one single little piece can cost $40+. i guess thats how they justify it but it still seems way high to me.

it was for commercial tuna.....not as big as the one in the pic you posted.....they might have been latino's doing the fish killing..

the real value comes on the sushi market.  for instance, I went out for sushi with my bro the other night.  choice cuts of bluefin fatty tuna were $10 for basically a little sliver of the prime meat off one of these beasts.  extrapolate from that, and you can see the obvious value these things hold.  great stuff, a bit overpriced if you ask me, but delicious nonetheless

kinda like in the us it a phantom, or gulfstream 6......the asian just get a dog that cost the same...

i have been going to a new sushi place lately....and they give you a ass load of prime cuts for a really good price....i think most of thee stuff is stolen/illegally imported

Best thing is that you get grade A tuna only in Japan. They buy all the best tuna from all over the world.

Tuna fishing is a fucked up job, i have seen a program on Japanese TV about a tuna fisher last week. It's a tough job, many hours on the sea, and if you are lucky you catch one fish per day. The fisher doesn't get those high amounts for the fish, they have to catch much more than 3 fish a day. If that eas enough, every Japanese would be a tuna fisher.

If you can, try to get Chu Toro or Oo Toro. This is the highest grade of fatty tuna, best taste.

They showed on one program this guy who fishes for a NYC sushi place---dude and 3 others go out on a fishing boat, with hooks, and catch fish one by one...and they have to be real careful in unhooking the fish--bruising of the fish causes the quality of the meat to go down---blood in the fish meat is not what is wanted. And that's the main reason for hook caught, not net caught fish.
