Dad Can't Watch As Court Plays His Video of Son's Uzi Tragedy
« on: January 07, 2011, 03:08:18 PM »
A Massachusetts doctor closed his eyes today when a court played a video that he filmed of his 8-year-old son shooting a powerful Uzi submachine gun that recoiled and shot the boy in the head, killing him.

The mother of 8-year-old Christopher Bizilj left the room in tears.

The 2008 tragedy occurred in Massachusetts when Christopher was handed a 9mm Micro Uzi submachine gun to fire during a gun expo he attended with his family. Former Pelham police chief Edward Fleury, who organized the event, is on trial for involuntary manslaughter. He has pleaded not guilty.

The nightmarish scene had been videotaped by the boy's father, Dr. Charles Bizilj, of Ashford, Conn., who was on the stand when the video was played. He closed his eyes as the video as shown.

People in the courtroom gasped as the shots rang out, clearly showing the moment when the boy starts to fire, but is unable to handle the gun's strong recoil. The automatic weapon keeps firing as the gun barrel rears up and shoots Christopher in the right side of the head.

The boy was "handed" a loaded gun? wtf
Who handed a loaded weapon to a child and what were the parents doing (apart from proudly filming) then?
Too bad such cases are used to advocate gun control over responsibility and common sense.

this is disgusting... very sad... What a stupid sack of shit his father is.  How the hell do you plead not guilty after doing something like that?  I couldn't live with myself if I did something that fucking stupid and killed my child.  The idea of a Darwin award is that you end up offing yourself before you breed your stupidity, not that you wait until you breed and off your kid with your stupidity ::)

I've been shooting since I was 6 w/o an issue.  My father wouldn't have handed me a fully automatic unless he held his hands around it as well.  An 8 year old should only be shooting .22's.  When puberty starts then you can move up.  The point of starting early is to acquaint your child with guns and shooting and teach control and safety.  It is not to impress people or show off how your kid is only 8 and can still blast away with an Uzi.

When I was about 9 or 10 I shot all kinds of weapons.

Uzis, Mac-11s, AKs.

My family were gun people. We had a mount and a stand that it would sit on that would keep it from recoiling... Gun safety was lost on these people.

Young kids have no business at gun shows.

Brixton is right.  the only gun someone that age should be shooting is a .22 and obviously with close adult supersion and teaching.  Then later move them up.  You don't just toss an uzi into an 8 year old's hands and expect it to be fine ::)  Idiots like this give gun owners a bad rep.  This is a very sad story.  Very upsetting..

Even a .22 for people under 13 or so is much to me.

No.  Bb guns should be used to train young ones into guns.

I was shooting a 22 around 8 years old I think.

There is something completely different about a 22 bolt action or double barrel 4-10 than an uzi that can just spray and pray.

I think i was probably shooting a .22 at around 10 maybe younger

I wouldnt give a kid that young a semi automatic gun never the less a fully automatic gun.

When I take someone shooting for the first time and they are shooting a gun I load one round. You never know how that person is going to react to the gun going off they may accidentally pull the trigger again from the recoil...

I've been shooting guns since I was 5-6, started with bb guns, went to 22's, by the time I was 10 or so I was shooting light gauge shotguns and pistols.......it's all on the parents and how much experience the child has.

Sad story.
