I've read your thoughts on healthcare issues before, and I am in agreement on most everything you say....and despite all the shit you catch, yours is a tough job......  but I really don't think we live in a "police state", I've been to a couple of places I would consider that.... there are screwed up laws/judgements in every country. This is just one of those....no big deal.

If you look at the statistics for incarceration over the last 50 years it will blow your mind.  The cases of police brutality and corruption have also grown exponentially in the last 10 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  People need to do the fucking research instead of talking out of their ass and comparing a Consitutional Republic/Democracy like the USA to communist fucking China or a dictatorship in Africa.  It's fucking stupid and makes no sense.  Of course the USA is more free so what?   The fact that my grandfather had more rights and freedoms than I do says a lot about the direction that this country is headed.  That is the point.
