Did your astrology sign change? (no homo) (no nibiru)
« on: January 14, 2011, 12:06:59 PM »
Better check your horoscope – according to astronomers, your sign might not actually be your sign.

Scientific star-gazers say the 12 Zodiac signs we have come to memorize as handily as our own birthdays are actually out of date by a few thousand years.

In fact, there should actually be a 13th sign called Ophiuchus between Scorpio and Sagittarius, changing the dates of the other signs as well.

“Precession has shifted our view of the stars significantly over a few thousand years, so the sun is no longer situated in front of certain star groupings on the astrologically appointed dates,” Mary Lou Whitehorne, president of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, as well as an astronomy educator and author, explained in an e-mail to QMI Agency.

Precession is the change in the orientation of Earth's axis over the years.

Because of this gradual shift, “things are 'off' by about one month, which is roughly the equivalent to one constellation (or sun sign) of the zodiac” since the times of ancient Greece, when these first signs were created, said Whitehorne.

That means the dates of signs are out of whack and many of us born Virgos could actually be Leos, many Aries are actually Pisces, and so on.

Others – born between Nov. 29-Dec. 17 – should actually be following the little known sign of Ophiuchus, the snake.

While astrologers are well aware of Ophiuchus, don't expect a change in your newspaper horoscopes anytime soon.

“This isn't news. This is nothing,” said Anne Massey, an astrologer and author based in Surrey, B.C.

She said astrological prognosticators have long known about the existence of Ophiuchus, and the shift of how we see stars over time, but that scientists are missing the point.

“This is symbolic – it follows a certain symmetric geometry. It's based on the seasons,” she said. “Astronomers don't observe the skies the same way astrologers do.”

According to a scientists, modern astrologers should be using these dates for the signs of the Zodiac.

My gigantic scorpion tatoo is looking more like a lobster these days.

I have to say that my tatoo aside, this sign change sounds like bullshit. How is Pluto being downgraded as a planet in 2011 supposed to effect the previous million+ years? Something is definetly off.

What is being referred to is Sidereal astrology, nothing new at all.. The western world has used Tropical astrology (Greek foundation), the present common sign system. Sidereal astrology (Sumer-Mesopotamia...most of the world uses Sidereal methods) as been around for at least 4 to 5 thousand years. Tropical, a little more than 2 thousand years.

Trying to keep this simple to explain; Science  knows the the Sidereal system is a established  measurement, with a 24 degree difference from Tropical. The Zodiac progresses in reverse, from one sign to the next. So if born in the sign of Cancer (tropical..the 4th sign) you may really be born in the sign of Gemini (tropical..the 3rd sign). This is a true measurement.

Sun sign astrology, or pop astrology here in the west, is not true astrology by it's self.. The moon and the Raising sign (on the horizon when born)can hold more influence. The sun is balanced with the moon and raising sign for a true chart reading. Of course the actually exact time of birth will be of prime importance. The aspects between planets/points, and their progressions,  are very important.

A million years ago we didn't even know about Pluto.  Less than 200 years I'm guessing. If I was you, I would look into tattoo removal.  You can't fool the cosmos.

100 million years ago we didn't know about Pluto but it was still there. Pluto is a critical mass of energy, not so much a actual planet, though it mocks a planet. In astrology, critical energy/mass are points (like Dragon head/Dragon tail) are important. Pluto is supposed to affect change, political or earth geo physical change. It is the planet (for a better term) of  massive destruction leading to better things. First discovered in 1930. Pluto is an octave of Mars and Scorpio.

For all those people who are thinking they may not be a Scorpio, for example, still might be.There is a escape door of 8 degrees (give or take) from the Sidereal (true measurement) to the Tropical system.  Would have to have a chart constructed with the correct birth time, etc  to establish any of this. With the new Astrology software around now, pretty easy to do.
