I like Mike, he looked great from the front... massive arms. Seems like he'd be a good dude too. If he had a back he would've placed way higher throughout his career... but his back was narrow and didn't have much detail or thickness other than his upper traps.

Looks huge in this video from the Ironman:

I think Mike was a great bber, but Im going to anticipate what the fellow getbigger would say:

- extremely long torso (huge structural flaw)
- small legs (that looked even smaller because of the point above)
- totally blured midsection (which hinted in what condition his whole physique was)
- no back and no v-taper in the BDB pose
- etc etc to the point he was all biceps.

How the F' did he place 11th...Crowd goes nuts for him

That's easy. Count the lat spreads from his posing routine and think why there isn't any. One of the weakest back's in the business at the time, it is simple as that. You can't score high without back matching the front.

thats funny,,, think that was like the only routine i seen without a back shot,, he did like a quik halfa$$d rdb and didnt get a crwd pop at all lik the mm shots he hit,, think they were still waitin for him to flex,lol...  thats the mr o,,, no back means u outta work on it and enter the following year till u get one,,, other shows u may b able to get away with it but history proves that at the o,,, bak allows u to take home the title,,, even so far as not having other stellar parts  but bak is key at the o

Naw, when he throws up a FDB his bis and tris lack seperation, that detail...no real pop....big arms, but he lacked that etched in look...actually there are pics when he was young and a boxer (in Flex's Big Picture) and his arms had that seperaration that he lacked when older.

Mike Matarrazo was a good bodybuilder in terms of the support he had from armchair fans - he had good personality, stage presence, and had a physique that a lot of fans wanted to emulate. Amazing calves too.

However, to purists he wasn't very good at all - the balance wasn't there, there was no back development to speak of, his rear lat spread was worse than Dillett's, his rear double bi wasn't much better and his side-tricep lacked separation between the individual heads of the muscle. Add to that the long torso and short legs and all things considered his physique was a classic case of a bunch of bodyparts thrown together that just didn't seem to go. He wasn't as tall as people made out either - only 5'9 I think and looked a lot smaller against guys even only an inch or two taller than him. Shame really because I'm sure he was a good guy and he would have been awesome to train with.
