Anyone here ever lift with very low testosterone?
« on: January 21, 2011, 05:04:50 PM »
If so, how different does it feel from when you're lifting with normal test levels?  What are the differences?

I would also be interested in hearing the difference in guys who juice, and then go off.

I always hear stuff like "I don't go as heavy when I'm off cycle," but I'm more interested in how you feel, rather than just stuff anyone could easily observe.  For example: pump, soreness, joints, etc.

Well according to this page: http://men.webmd.com/testosterone-15738?page=2

The typical levels for someone age fifty would be between 350-890 ng/dL, and for someone age twenty, 270-1,080 ng/dL, which doesn't seem like a huge difference to me.

I don't know anything about hormones though, really, so I'm interested in learning more about them.  I'm wondering if I should get a blood test done because I'm having serious problems in the weight room, and it seems like no matter what I do I can't snap out of it.  I always turn to training first, then diet whenever I have a problem, but now I'm starting to wonder if it isn't hormones that are really causing me all this grief.

Maybe its some kind of mental burn out? You need to be inspired, not working out because you are scared to stop.

Its sucks you feel like shit when you come off and have low test levels. If you eat good and use some good supplements it will make a big difference. Get a lot of rest to.

This is another possibility.  These are stressful and depressing times for me, for many reasons, but overall I don't feel like my mood is that different from a couple years ago, nor my troubles.  And back then (maybe 3-4 years) I could go into the gym every time and just do insane workouts, huge pump and soreness every time, consistently make improvements.  Compare this with the last two years, where I haven't had more than three consecutive good workouts -- and usually these are spaced out between months of no pump, joint pain, no consistency lifting sessions.

Also no I don't drink any alcohol or do drugs of any kind.

Can you be more specific?  What is lifting like once you come off?

When I had my test levels checked I think it was 177ng/dL. The range it showed on my results was something like low normal starts at 300ng/dL and goes up to high normal at 1200 ng/dL. Definately notice that I don't have the aggression when I train. Joints never hurt much. It was more a muscle soreness that wasn't a good muscle soreness like you get when i worked out when I was younger. Recovery isn't nearly as good. I would love to see what it would be like to have my test levels in the high normal range. Also harder to keep bodyfat level down.

When your on testosterone your are much more focused on lifting weights., and you get excited to work out. You get better pumps, and once the blood is flowing you don't want to stop..

5-6 weeks after you stop, the pumps go away, and you don't really want to work out anymore,

Thanks for these responses!  Very helpful.  I definitely get the "soreness that isn't a good muscle soreness" in my back a lot these days.  I think I'm going to go get checked.

Spend some time do some research. Get yourself some good test boosters. Right now I'm using hcgenerate 5 caps a day and 25 mg of clomid before bed. I about 40 days out of pretty long test only cycle. I'm feeling good. Cycle the products that you use. When the time is right go to the doctore and get on some hrt.

For me training drive increases when off. Yeah I know it should be just the opposite.  ::) :D
On steroids I have to force myself to go to the gym, force myself to warm up... then I might hit a zone where I feel the drive to go mental. When it happens the workouts are fantastic. But basically, for me, steroids = lazy, sleepy and uninspired.

When off strength goes down of course but the major thing is endurance with heavy sets. On drugs I can do a set with heavy loads and then go again and again after resting with little drop in strength. When off strength plummets dramatically after the first 'working set'.

try 5000 mg of test a week for awhile, that will snap you out of it.

cephissus sounds like your probably overtraining. try staying away from failure.

Last week I decided to cut my volume in half, essentially.  Instead of hitting everything twice a week, I just do roughly the same workout but only once per week.  Only lifting MWF and like one or two exercises per muscle group a couple top sets max.  It might sound funny, but I can't even go to failure most of the time.  My muscles don't even feel like they're working even though the weight is moving, and I just have to stop once my joints start hurting.

If "overtraining" is the problem, I would expect an improvement after dropping to once a week.  Just got back from the gym though, and everything went even worse than last week!  :'(  Today was the worst I've felt in a while.  Absolutely nothing worked.  Muscles completely dead.  Nevertheless I'll stick to this reduced training load for another month or so and see what happens.

I've heard of people "overtraining" for long periods of time, and then having to take months off or even years to recover.  I really don't want to even think about that, but it does seem like a possibility.  I hit it very, very hard for a long, long time before wising up.  I've never actually met or talked to anyone who had this problem though, so I don't know how they diagnosed themselves.

Sounds like low test to me, alright.

Bad psychological hits can cause you to feel like your test has crashed.  Usually temporary, but it can be a long term problem if the mental hit was especially bad.  I guess that's why test is a known medication for depression.

THIS x 10

I've never worked out as insane as when I was single and drug free

No chix, no beer, no weed or roids = insane gym warrior

Thats when I did my ultra slow rep German volume training. Most insane workout I've ever done. Great results.  :o

You need to get a burger and go for a walk. Time to chill and smell the roses, maybe go to a pub for a frosty beverage.

Nor gigantic muslims?  By the way, I am both very short and extremely old.  My testosterone level is nearly nonexistent and I still train, albeit with moderate success.  Nothing to write home about, but honesty is never unwelcome news.  It can be done.
