I just finished grad school and got a job at Queen's. Haven't seen much of the city yet, but I've only been here a week and a half.
It's not very big. Downtown basically consists of 2 streets -- princess and ontario st. All the clubs (bars) are mostly on Princess st. Stages night club is like a high school dance. Grizzly Bar and Grill is the known "cougar" hang out and where most of the people who've hit the wall go.
Best feature in Kingston is that it doesn't just have one Denny's, but 2 Denny's restaurants!
It's been a long time since I've worked out back home in Kingston but I guess the best gym is the Goodlife downtown. Don't go to premier at the Frontenac mall, they rob people blind apparently. The YMCA is ok, or at least it used to be but has tons of punks and ex convicts. Lots of prisons in and around kingston so there are quite a few criminals there. lol Basically, on any given day downtown you'll run into Queens students, townies, RMC cadets, military, young fort drum soldiers (they like to border jump to hit 19+ clubs to drink), lots of hockey players, and of course the ex cons and cons on day passes. It makes for an interesting mix once the bars kick everyone out at 2:30-3 am on a weekend night. I don't know if it's as bad but back in the day there were some pretty big brawls.
The best part of Kingston is there aren't many immigrants and the ones there aren't FOBS and are actually well socialized for the most part. lol
