What this all boils down to is years and years and years of conditioning designed to successfully brainwash America's youth into ignoring reality so that everyone feels good about themselves. Mal (although black) does seem to somewhat have a mind of his own, even when it comes to issues that are traditionally closed within the framework of "identity" and victimization politics. This demonstrates that despite being told his entire life not to "judge a book by its cover" and to avoid insidious stereotyping like the white man, he also isn't a complete moron.
KC also seems to be fairly intelligent (although liberal) and occasionally surprises me by using his brain and basing his opinion on the evidence instead of "feelings".
But both of these unfortunate souls have been so conditioned to use moral equivalency arguments, revisionist history, rationalizations, explanations and circular logic at the expense of reality, that they don't even see how foolish they look.
It's 2011. Not 1611, 1745, 1800 or 1900. In today's world and for the past century especially, Islam has a virtual monopoly on horrific violence and brutality perpetrated against its own followers as well as the entire civilized world. If you guys can't understand that, then you are too far gone to be reasoned with and cannot be taken seriously in any discussion related to this topic. Religion doesn't kill people. Islam kills people. You can't justify bad behavior in present day society by casting negative assertions against religion as a whole for violence that was committed hundreds of years ago. Nuff said.
