Let me tell you the story of the near death experience I had 2 days ago.
I was in bed with a high fever. I was getting chills so I turned on the heated blanket and space heater. I was just laying there sweating and shivering and hallucinating, feeling hotter and sicker than every before in my life. I would barely move.
My training partner came over to help me. She put a thermometer in my ear and it read 39.8 degrees celcius which is VERY high. I was burning up.
She freaked out and said "We need to go to the hospital now!" So I got my shit together, grabbed a couple things and walked out the door feeling very out of it.
We got in the elevator and started going down, her car was in Basement 2.
6, 5, 4......I start feeling dizzy........ 3, 2........I crouch down in the corner of the elevator because my head is spinning. 1 , basement 1. I lay down on the floor of the elevator, i'm burning up and overheating, soaked in sweat.
Basement 2, the elevator doors open and I crawl out on all fours into the parking lot, I knew I was in big trouble. "Bring the car here." I said to her. And she ran off.
Next thing I know everything went black and silent. I was just floating in this thick blackness.
SLAP! I wake up. She is slapping me in the face and yelling my name in a panic. I wake up suddenly. The car is close so I crawl into the passenger side.
I'm burning up so I rip off my shirt. I take a bottle of water and I dump it all over myself and drink half of it. Letting the cold air cool me off as we speed the the nearby hospital. I'm still shaking uncontrollably.
We get to the hospital a few minutes later and they rush me in on a stretcher. I'm seeing colors and stars like i'm off 2 hits of acid. I am in another dimension. They throw bags of ice all over me and force me to drink water. They are yelling in the foreign language I cannot understand well. I am shaking and shivering and spasming. I thought it was all over.
They strapped me down to the stretcher with lots of lots of velcro straps because I am shaking so much, I cannot move move now. I'm tied down and shaking, i'm in hell. They stick an IV in my hand. It was like magic, within 30 seconds I was stable and feeling a lot better. 2 hours later my fever was back to low and the situation was ok.
The problem was that I was sweating too much and turning on all the heat was a big mistake. I sweated out ALL my fluids and became very severely dehydrated. Combine that that an almost 40 degree fever and you are facing death.
My friend said that when when brought the car up I was laying on my back, convulsing. She jumped out of the car and ran up to me. I stopped moving. She slapped me 5 times and I didn't wake up. She said that I was dead. She slapped me a few more times and finally I woke up and got in the car.
Fucked up shit.
The lesson. If you have a high fever DON'T use a heater. Use a fan to cool yourself off. And make sure you drink a LOT of fluids. Otherwise you might die for 10 seconds like I did.
If my friend didn't come over I might have really been fucked. I might have been alone when that happened. I really think that woman saved my life.
It really was a near death experience and I woke up the next day feeling like I got a second chance at life. And I think I seriously might have died for a short time was I was out. She said I was dead.
A fucked up thing. But it was also awesome and powerful. I am grateful to be ok now.
