I cant believe how cheap slightly used mx bikes have gotten    I still love the CR 250 2 strokes- but everyone I ride with has 4 strokes-  u can find a few year old crf450 for under 3000   they switched to fuel injection in 2009 but not much of a diff on the track-   the 450 is also more versatile than the 250 2 strokes too

i raced motocross when i was younger. i always have bikes now, but can't take a chance riding the way i used to. just got rid of a yz 450 and got a wr 450, basically the same thing with lights and a wide ratio transmission.

Awesome Haz-  I know what the WRs are-  they used to have them with the old 250 2 strokes as well-
wr tranny is good for desert, enduro, etc-  is there a lot of good riding in CA?  Yamaha was the first that brought in the 4 strokes-  I remember going to the supercross when Doug Henry was the only guy on a thumper-  Last wknd- I was the only guy with a 2strk-  Ill keep my cr but will prob end up getting the Crf450 soon-  the power is always there- and esp down low vs my bike that u have to keep revs up all the time

going to start racing again this spring, you have to be very carefull buying used 4 strokes, if they haven't been maintained well engine repairs can be very exspensive. unfortunately bb and motocross are like oil and water :( bought a 2009 kx250f from a pro rider last year, engine mods, full pro circuit suspension and exhaust. love it

yeah that was a weird changeover at races. it would sound like one tractor with a pack of bumblebees. now it is mostly 4 strokers and a couple 2 strokes.

Yes-   very tru-  I was talking w my buddy and we were talking about top end job on 2 stroke being about 300 and the 4 stroke closer to 1000 w the cam chains valves and all the other stuff-  I dnt know if Id even want to do it myself on the 4-  Ive been learning a lot about the 450 motors on dirtrider.com

Old Lifter-  Ive heard that some pros are getting better lap times on the 250s than then 450s    a lot of people say its the ultimate vet machine-

i like it better than the 450. i get very tired on the 450 as it does have a shit load of low end, so you are basically wrestling it around, especially on tighter tracks. the 250 is also lighter and i love being able to ride it wfo most of the time

Exactly. That is why I stayed on the 80 till I was 16 and the 125 until I was over 200lbs.  The only prob was big jumps after tight turns.   The cr is grt other than the peaky power. I'm hoping the Bills Pipe I have will give a bit more of a spread

I did for many years.  I do miss it.  Mainly all Honda's.  Got a bunch of trophy's collecting dust in my garage.  I still would race but I don't want to drop 5g's on a used dirt bike, let alone 8k for a new one.  I still got my gear though, just in case!  side note: I would highly enjoy a Service Honda 500AF.

That's grt. Me too I hve a lot of cool trophys.   I kept the old gear then tried to put it on and it was all brittle.  I got all new gear from Chaparral for so cheap.   They have awesome package deals.   The Service Hondas are grt.   I think that's what Robbie Madison used for his jumps.   I prefer something more fllickable.   Check craigslist.   I've seen 2 yr old bikes for under 3k.  Seems like everything is a bit cheaper thse days

I've got both the 250 and 450 and I prefer to ride the 250 on track. The 450 is just too big and powerful most of the time. I bought extra rims and run it and my 125 in Supermoto trim. Damn good workout and just a hoot when the weather cooperates. Also pretty damn humbling when you get out there with some pro caliber guys - the stuff they can pull off is incredible.
