Some kind of curl?

An isolation movement for a show muscle wouldn't make a big five list.

Haha.

You can just post this as the first reply in every thread and substantially reduce the flotsam around here.

Better question: If you could only ever do one lift for the rest of your life (e.g. you have murdered your Getbig posting rival and have to go to jail and can bring one luxury item), what would it be?  I say barbell squats b/c you can look pretty jacked just doing pushups/pullups/unweighted calf raises/jack-off/etc. but your legs will always be sticks without iron assistance.

Believe it or not, bicep and abs are some of the most important muscles in everyday life. Ask strongmen who carry stuff.

ROFL! Awesome one kiwi ma man ;D So wot would che have to add into da mix? And as far as the Big 5 is considered, I'd say that any kind of overhead press isn't necessary, since the bp is the upper body  squat.

Sometype of direct arm exercises drop the overhead press, especially if your arms are a weak point.

Abs I believe.  But a lot of guys who strength train at my gym hardly train biceps, if at all.

According to Louie Simmons of The Westside Barbell Club, and the home of multiple World Powerlifting Champs, biceps are a useless muscle in the sport of powerlifting. And as far as calves go, they contribute ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to major sporting activites, including ALL forms of running and jumping.

Biceps are important in Powerlifting because of the stabilizing effect during bench(especially wider grip) and during deadlift. In Strongman, they're used a lot in in the tire flip, etc.... A few years back, when it was in vogue to drop direct bicep work, you saw quite a few torn biceps. It's swung back to just do a few sets, here and there among most of them, usually straight bar or hammer curls.

Is that what Louie Simmons says nowadays? He said that stuff about the biceps back in the late 90s.

It's more just the general thinking in powerlifting and strongman circles. Simmons's is a bit similar, just do enough to prevent imbalances, etc....

When one runs and/or jumps the bulk of the power comes from the hip extenders. Olympic lifters have some of the best vertical leaps of all sportsmen, and their lifts train the hip extenders, and do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for ankle flexion/extension. Take one guy and have him train only on hip extension (leg press/squat) and take another guy and have him only train on "calf work" and I guaren-goddamn-tee that the squat/leg press guy will pwn the shit out of the calf guy when tested for vertical jump increase.
