Bench Press
Military Press

And as far as calves go, they contribute ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to major sporting activites, including ALL forms of running and jumping.

Oh boy... You're way off! Calves are very important. Almost all athletes have huge and probably strong calves

When one runs and/or jumps the bulk of the power comes from the hip extenders. Olympic lifters have some of the best vertical leaps of all sportsmen, and their lifts train the hip extenders, and do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for ankle flexion/extension. Take one guy and have him train only on hip extension (leg press/squat) and take another guy and have him only train on "calf work" and I guaren-goddamn-tee that the squat/leg press guy will pwn the shit out of the calf guy when tested for vertical jump increase.

That's what your mom was babbling about when she took on the big 5 aka the Lakers

Yeah he's an idiot.  The calves have been researched probably more than any other muscle group and play a very important role in running and sprinting and jumping.  Our calves are actually specially designed for power jumping and economical running.

;D Do you think if we made a "your mom" thread, it would eventually beat the gayer than thread?

Well kiwiol, me thinks dat da mom jokes pwn the gayer than jokes, but in my opinion the short but sweet ones are much better and funnier. For example your "I update your mom" ROFL! Classic man, fucking classic ;D Maybe we should set a word limit to the mom jokes ie. 10 words or less?

The 'gayer than' jokes are great, but the 'gayer than' thread is not about jokes so much as it is just people having a conversation with a "gayer than" at the beginning of each sentence.

But yes, 'your mom' jokes are funnier most of the times.

Word limit won't work, since everyone has their own style, which is good. It would be a hilarious thread, though.

Is a term used by Dr. McGuff and they are as follows: 1. Some kind of Squat or Leg Press 2. Some kind of Bench Press (pushing in the horizontal plane) 3. Some kind of Overhead Press (pushing in the vertical plane) 4. Some kind of Row (pulling in the horizontal plane) 5. Some kind of Chin/Pulldown (pulling in the vertical plane). Discuss

1. Who is this "Dr. McGuff"?

2. Unless for bodybuilding purposes, why would he suggest a leg press?

? .

Seriously, I'm pretty sure he means Doug McGuff, who was a Super Slow/Mentzer HIT type guy. I've only read a little of his stuff, but it seems more targeted to the 40 year old couch potato that thinks you can get in shape with that type of minimal traning. He's also bias'ed toward machines and the like for the most part.

Yep, it's from Doug McGuff, but my point isn't that McGuff's theroies are the best or even good for that matter. FYI, that super-slow stuff is a load of horseshit by the way. But the point is that the heavy compound moves pwn the shit out of ALL OTHER EXERCISES. And coach, you gotta be joking about leg presses, right?

Not even close to joking about the leg press. Like I said, unless you're using for bodybuilding, fitness or a soccer mom who want's to look "firm and
tone" there is very little functional use for it.

Gayer than thinking you need a direct arm exercise when you can't even squat 1.5x your bodyweight for 5 reps.
