Hey everyone I'm posting this here because I guess it's the best place to put it. At the moment I am in college and will be graduating in two years from now but I want to and do train for the APFT. I was previously in the Guard before but was out on an els ( long story ) but I'm going back in after college. Anyhow I've been hearing for a couple of months that the APFT is going to change and from everything I have looked at it is pretty much true and I have an idea of the events from here and there but I am trying to find out when this thing is suppose to come out. Anybody here have any ideas on when it is coming out and/or the events that will be on it? Thanks everyone

From what I have read, I'd expect pull-up to be added and the run to be more tactical.  Probably run in gear/boots.

Honestly I really just wish they would come out and annouce the offical events and when they plan to release it. I mean it doesn't make any sense that they are just waiting to the last minute to tell people. I mean I would think it would be a good idea to tell people so they can get ready for it. ::)

Train for what the standard is today and blend in more cardio, fitness exercises (bur pees, spider crawls front and backwards, high knees jumping lunges..etc)

Not like they'll have some american gladiator eliminator waiting you guys. lol

Hell I bet if you just

try to hit 100 sit ups and push ups in 60 seconds daily
condition yourself to jog a mile in 7-8 minutes every other day
find a park and do as many pull ups as possible in a minute

....you'll probably be better prepared for the PT than 90% of the crowd.

they are doing a lot less long distance running, and focusing more on sprints, moderate distance, and explosive power....they discovered that the long distance shit wasn't hacking it when soldiers didn't have the sprint speed, or power to make it to cover..

Makes a whole lot more sense.  And i think the idea of running in gear/boots is better too.  Not many times in a combat situation you have your reeboks, shorts and t-shirt pacing a nice 6 minute mile...hahaha

Yes exactly I mean Pull ups are one of the best and for some people an easy form of exercise, crunchs are good because they don't put the same stress on your back and neck like sit ups do and the 3 mile run while I am not the best runner the Marine Corp three mile run is wayyyyyyyyyy easier to pass then the Army 2 miler because you have to run the 3 miler in no more then 28 minutes and the army two miler depending on your age group you have to run at a much faster pace to pass it then the Marines do with theirs.

Oh and also on their test for the pull ups you have a choice of pull ups or chin ups. There is flexibility there you don't have that on the Army PT test.

good luck.  You'll do fine. It's those who don't prepare that usually fail.

I use them. They are good to use included in your workout especially if you do stations.

We have two different types now. The PFT is an afterthought. The Combat Fitness Test (CFT) we do is much more of a break off and harder in my opinion. Sprinting 1/2 a mile in boots sucks.

I like that Combat Fitness Test you guys do! I believe you when you say it's tough but to be honest I would still take that over the Army PT test. I just really think that the current Army PT test 2 minutes of push ups, two minutes of sit ups and the two mile run especially the run is just done so wrong. The push ups are good and the sit ups while I'm really good at them I hope those are gonna be gone because of the damage that they do to your back and neck and the two mile run is I don't what it is I just hate it. I would rather do a very quick 1 mile run or the slower three mile run you guys do.

After my initial CFT I started doing crossfit and when it came up it was a lot easier. I mean to each branch his own for fitness tests. It's all in what they expect out of their members. Every Marine is a rifleman so every Marine in theory should be combat ready, other branches don't operate like that. Some of the other guys my age know they only need 200pts to get a 1st class so they cheesedick the run but it's up to you to decide how hard you want to make it on yourself. I mean I'm 30 and I'm trying to get a sub 20mins for my 3 miles.

Just out of curiosity does anyone here think the five branchs should all follow just one same pt test overall?

No, not at all.  Every branch is geared towards a different mission.

depends on where you are doing it. We run ours on a flight line. It's like running w/ an open parachute on your back till you do the turn around.
