what is the best way to wake up?
« on: February 24, 2011, 09:47:17 PM »
Besides to JNN giving me head.
I usually set my alarm and snooze for about 30mins before actually getting up, but I rarely feel well rested.  I'm wondering if there is any science (falcon or otherwise) which tells us how best to wake up?

Not feeling well rested is the number one symptom of sleep apnea...

Well theres an iphone app(isnt there always...) that you set a 30 minute window youd like to wake up in, with the 30th minute the latest you can wake up, you then set your iphone on the matress next to you and go to sleep. The iphone has an accelerometer in it and the app measures by how much you move around which in turn shows how deep a sleep you are in, when it gets to the 30 minute window the alarm goes off when the app senses you are in the lightest stage of sleep, which is when you are moving around the most.Havnt tried it myself but science and people who use the app swear by it.Its the top paid ap in a bunch of countries.

The key to waking up refreshed is to get plenty of quality sleep. Most folks need at least 8 hours sleep. Don't drink alcohol before retiring. To figure out how much sleep you need, don't set your alarm. Get up when you wake up. Of course, this works best when you are off work....don't want to get fired for being late. That would cause stress and stress messes with you having a restful sleep.

Go to sleep sober after a good days work and physical activity. Be straight.

You will jump out of bed in the AM.

Use drugs, alcohol, weed, etc., to get to sleep, you will wake up groggy and need something else to get you going.

Natural quality sleep doesn't come from Ambien or other "sleep" drugs, so you don't get natty REM. Just like natural muscle doesnt come from juicy juice.

Picture yourself waking up naturally and seeing there are a few more minutes left for the alarm to go off at the time you set it to, just before you fall asleep. Do this 2-3 times and you'll find yourself waking up with a few mins to spare. I read about this "technique" somewhere and have tried it myself, successfully. The mind works in mysterious ways.

Or you can also try waking up to *insert Getbigger's name*'s mom

Yeah, I find when you have to get up for something at a certain time, and not a generic work day, you usually always wake up pretty much dot on that time.

Dr. Oz says "snooze" is bad, it doesn't help worth a shit, you might as well get the hell up, because you aren't getting quality sleep.

Sometimes - like 7 times a decade - I will be dreaming but awake enough to totally manipulate the dream and choose what happens. It's always sexual and it's always very satisfying. However, sometimes I wake up too soon!

Lucid dreaming, theres whole forums out there with people who can do it, supposedly trained themselves to do it on call.

When I started eating more fruits and veggies and getting atleast 30 minutes of moderate to intense cardio in on most days I sleep like a baby.

That is some worthwhile training if you can get it down pat.

I've heard some good tips on this.

-Keep water by the bed.  As soon as you wake up drink a whole bottle before you even get up.  Your body is dehydrated and your blood is like sludge.  Water with get it flowing freely again.

-Stretch.  Do a really good cat stretch before you get up.  Now it should be much easier to actually get moving.

-Exercise your eyes.  Blink them a lot, cover them with a hot rag for a few seconds and spend time during your morning rountine exercising them by focusing on things far away out the window.

-Take a multi-vitamin.  The stronger the better.  I used Mega Man Sport from GNC.  I just take one and it literally erases feelings of slow mornings and lethargy.

And this wasn't a tip but I would invest in some gourmet coffee.  This stuff smells amazing and really kick-starts your day.  I wouldn't say I'm a coffee nut but I do start off every day with 1-2 cups of some of the best.

lately i somewhere read sth about putting a 100mg caffeine pill next to the bed, when you wake up, swallow the pill, hit snooze and sleep for another 20-30 minutes until the caffeine kicks in.

haven't tried it myself, but sounds good.

key is to wake up and do it... even if it's only 4 am... otherwise your REM will procrastinate and make you "dream" that you took it..then next thing you know it's 9:15AM... ;D
