Eh... never really liked the Ibanez guitars a lot... the Satriani models arent bad... aside from that, not a big fan..
Paul reed smith's Custom 22's and Jacksons RR's are my 2 favorites. Unfortunatley I sold all my nice guitars and my VHT pitbull head to go to school.  :-\

*EDIT*
In the price range youre looking at, that is probably not a bad choice.
The PRS's are really expensive and you cant get an RR1 cheap enough unless its used, and I wouldnt waste my money on the cheaper models.

yeah the PRS's are extremely expensive and the only jackson models around here are not the high end ones. dont like the knob placement on them either

Visit: http://www.rasmusguitars.com/

You can have these for about 1300$.. and they're very very very good guitars... they're designed by John Suhr and produced in S. Korea.

It is quite good guitar, if you like a Floyd Rose-type tremolo, which you can't lock. You must be familiar to adjusting this type of tremolo, or your guitar will never be in tune. There is some "lock studs" to help tuning, but can you play with those, I don't know. Bad Floyd Rose is pain in the ass and only truly good is original Floyd Rose. With axe in this price range it can't be bad, but it still isn't original. Playability should be the point why you want just this guitar, not price, because if the neck doesn't fit in your hairy little hands, you are waisting time and money. One of the best price/quality ratio which I have found is in the Parker Guitars. They look funky, but every one who has try my Fly Deluxe, has bought at least one Parker for himself. You simply can't top that playability, Ken Parker is genius.

I always took you for a guy that would string 8's.

Now that you're talking this "upgrade," I'm pretty sure you're also scared of basements.

These have a zr bridge which basically is a floyd with a "tremel-no". I have 3 Ibanez guitars in my collection and love them all. The 3570s are a great guitar. Never been a fan of Parkers though - just don't feel right to me.

OP - go the store and try it out. Some guys don't like the necks others do. I  love them and I generally like thick necks. If you like the neck you are getting a great guitar for the money.

being using fenders ever since i could afford them. between age 5 - 12 i used a Memphis electric, that i just keep fixing and modding. I only seen one other Memphis guitar before. that's how much that brand sucked.

Agreed... and while not as big as some, I have posted my share of YT vids and sported 18" arms... I imagine it looks strange to most.

When it comes to playability and feel, I haven't picked up a better guitar than the rg prestige series - me playing my rg2570;)

I recommend one compared to any jackson, schecter, esp or any similar 'metal' guitar.

Im actually looking to buy a fender for its tone quality that I recently discovered but I havent had one in my hands in forever so maybe someone can compare the feel/playability of a rg prestige to a fender american strat???

Hey I use both so I can compare them honestly. The playability of the strat is generally better. Very smooth necks. At first it may feel a little small at first but they  are very playable guitars. If I had to keep one guitar in my collection it would be my usa strat. Stick nice pickups in the guitar and you are set.

Smoother necks than the ibanez ones? Interesting, cause I heard people replacing the fender necks with the ibanez ones to create these 'ultimate' guitars.  It really doesn't matter, you can get used to any guitar, eventually your hands just adjust to the feel.  Is there a big difference between the american and the mim one or not really noticeable?

Used to gig a mim a long time ago. There is a huge difference in feel. The mim are fine but the american made starts are considerably better. My unbiased opinion on the necks is the strat neck is a lot nicer. I wouldn't change a strat neck for an Ibanez neck ever. While I like the Wizard necks on them the Fender necks are a lot nicer playing.

I have a usa standard strat, and i vaguely remember playing an ibanez rg.  from what i remember the neck on the rg is "faster", meaning thinner neck with larger frets.

what kind of music do you play, stud muffin?

i do want to get an rg250dx eventually, as that's one of john frusciante's early guitars, not that i can play like him.
