My girls just did their 1st BJJ tournament this past Saturday. My 7yr old faced all boys and ran through all of them to win her division. In her last match she was ahead by 8 points and then go caught in a RNC. She defended it well and won the decision...phew!
My 9 yr old also had to face all boys and had a tougher time. In her 1st match, she started strong and then the boy got aggressive and took her down. She wasn't ready to get roughed up like that and panicked (very heart-breaking for me). He arm-barred her and she lost. She came back to me in tears, BUT it was double elimination tournament. She toughed it out and went out for her second match. This time she managed a sweet double leg and mount. She held that position and won the decision. She then lost her 3rd match in a tough back and forth decision.
I went up against a 6'7" 215 inbred looking guy. I though I would have no problem getting a single and taking him down. I was wrong. We stood for the full 5 minutes in a stalemate. Neither one of us got the takedown. It then went to a 1 minute sudden death. Whomever got the 1st point would win. I got pushed out of bounds and gave up the point
. I should have pulled guard. Oh well...hopefully better next time.
I'll post some pics/videos when I can...
