talk about crazy fans, the rallys attracted thousands of fancs close to the dangerous tracks when this monsters came.  There were no serious restrictions for the cars and no limitations for developing, in the end they reached the same power as F1 cars.

watch the video and you see for yourself how fkn stupid the fans where lål

It looks cool, but if I were one of the drivers I'd refuse to drive under those conditions.. even at gunpoint.

Imagine that the slightest fuckup could result in the deaths of tens of people. I wouldn't do it, no way in hell.

Same power as the F1 cars?
The F1 cars make like 900 Hp @ 18000 RPM, N/A
I doubt the cars in that video were making 900 hp.
I could be wrong, but I highly, highly doubt it.
Awesome video nonetheless.

People dont understand how much power things like F1 (900 Hp @ 18,000 RPM :o, <200ci motors), NASCAR Cup (900 HP @ 9,000 RPM, 360ci motors), Pro Stock (1500hp@10,000 RPM, 500ci motors), etc make.. those ralley cars (in that vid) would be nearly undrivable with that much power.

Group B cars at their peak had more than 600hp and the manufacturers intentionally downplayed the power of those beasts often rating them as low as 400hp.
The car that Audi was preparing for 1987 was rumored to have 1000+hp (and quite undrivable at this early stage) but after the cancellation of the Group B class development stopped.
Most Group B cars after 1986 found their way to Pikes Peak and Rallycross where they dominated.

Also at that time F1 had the 1.5 turbo engines. With boost of up to 4 bar the engines they used for qualifying (lasting about 2 laps) had an output of around 1500hp.
The 80's were good times for motorsports.

This I believe.
Im not really familiar with F1 as much as the American Motorsports, but from what I understand they are now N/A turning close to 19k RPM, and use a pneumatic valve actuation system? (Correct me if im wrong here)
Pretty crazy stuff.
Also crazy is that NASCAR Cup uses a 2 valve pushrod valvetrain with Solid FLAT TAPPET cams and turns 9k and makes 900Hp. That is 1960's technology. NASCAR Cup racing is a lot more impressive when you realize how much power they make for the rules they have to work with. (Extremely restrictive)

that was the car i meant with near f1 power, tought they drove the car at 1 rally but i was wrong
