Yes it hunted small animals. It wasn't awkward on the ground, infact it could run on 4 legs. I mean, with it's two legs and the wing pair. Scientist also think that it was an excellent flier, like the modern birds are.
It was awkward compared to the therapods that would fuck it up...it could walk a lil bit, but having those wings folded up and the membranes creates limited movement, plus it was awkward to take off from the ground...try that shit with those wings with a pack of Raptors or a T-Rex comic after you...you become lunch very quick...they were like the albatrosses of the day...great fliers---but hard as fuck to take off---but they were more gliders..their chests lacked the breast muscle and I believe the wishbone for the attachment...thus having poor liftoff and only able to glide more than have that "bird" flight...
I'm going by memory here.
But, bats lack it as well, I don't know their physiology---but they are typically smaller in size.
