Good try but women like you describe were not the norm although there were many who were as you described.....women back in the day WERE subservient to men and got their asses kicked on a regular basis...my mom and dad fought and all of the moms and dads of my friends fought as well..it was normal back then.....believe me, my dad sometimes got the worst of it because my mom would throw things at him and bite him sometimes...police were called to my home and the homes of my friends all the time but no arrests were ever made.....they simply made dad leave home and told him to take a walk and cool off.....after the O.J. thing, cops are scared to do this because guys today are crazy and will come back and kill the wife or girlfriend...back in the day it was really rare for a hubby to kill his wife or girlfriend through beating her to death
Of course they weren't. Except in the "civilized" world, they still aren't.
My parents fought too. -Not pretty. My stepdad never hit my mom, no matter what shit she did to him, and she did plenty. The most he would ever do is push her away. Still, she'd call the police on him sometimes. She was a crazy woman! The police would come and tell them both to calm down. That rarely worked. Usually, my stepdad would just get in his truck and go somewhere for a couple of hours until my mom would pass out from all the alcohol she'd consumed. Yes, I know disfunction, but one can learn something from it and not allow it in their lives.
If my wife ever tried anything like my mom did, we'd be history. If I'd ever hit her in anger, we'd be history. Maybe we just respect each other too much to engage in the asinine behavior my parents did. Also, neither of us have ever had a drinking problem. I have a bad temper, which I usually take out for a walk if I think I'm going to loose it. This works most of the time, although I've said things I later regretted when I was mad.
