The most shocking thing about that was that a Jap would shoot that in 360p and not 720p.

Based on the above (and almost everything else on this board) I wonder if the average non-japanese education on this board goes beyond Elementary School?

Things are getting crazy in Japan
« Reply #103 on: March 15, 2011, 03:19:23 AM »
This is getting crazy, despite the government assuring the citizens that they have everything under control one single reporter proved that they lie.
He went as close as a few kilometres to the actual nuclear reactor and took pictures of people panicing, there are no more buses, people
Are left in schools and sport halls – he said himself that he wasn’t able to get out but paid a man $ 150 to drive him out – he talked to mothers
Who very concerned and many started crying, the radiation levels are off the chart and he said himself he must have gotten a good  blast
Himself he has hedaches and his eyes hurt, he threw away his close and only left his trousers on.

This is a perfect example what will happen if a major catastrophe hits a developed country, the government has possibly abandoned the
few thousand people that are left in the immediate danger area, don’t believe for a second this couldn’t happen in your country, this
is a reminder to us all to look at this very closely and learn from it.

Yeah, the #1 goal is the continuation of society.  Nobody cares about a few thousand poor schleps, if it means a panic will shut down Tokyo.

Ten years from now, it'll be "confusion and conflicting info led us to fail to warn people" and nobody held accountable for letting people stay in the danger zone.

Has any one actually heard why the back up generator failed?  Was it because of water damage?

And has anyone heard what dose per second is in or around that area?   ???

The earthquake cut the power to plant causing the issues with the cooling system, the back up generators failed to start, but haven't heard why they failed?

Place is going to be like Chernobyl, I just hope they are actually trusting that the dosimeters are actually reading correctly unlike Chernobyl and all those workers ended up dieing from radiation exposure.

Weird they don't just put the entire nuclear plant on a 50 foot concrete block, above ground.  Something that may get shaken by an earthquake, but won't get hit with a fall of water cause it's 5 stories high and strong as fck.

maybe i'm ignorant and something needs to be deep under earth for nuke power to work.

It's pretty bad over there, I was watching CNN last night, 500k people homeless, the place is a mess.

I thought they had it under control but I guess these nuclear reactors are getting close to a meltdown.

Its very sad, Japan is a great country and the Japanese are great people, I respect them highly and hope the US and every other country helps them.

Some grandiose, sweeping assumptions you're making there, champ. Not surprising coming from you, though.

Morning Joe - MSNBC - mentioned this morning that because they have been shut down since Friday one of the possibilities would be that they are cooling down themselves.

Keep in mind folks, the earthquake that hit Japan was SIX times stronger(the richter scale is logarithmic) than what the nuclear plants were built for. So the fact that they're standing at all is nothing short of unbelievable.

Not to distract from your fact, but I am impressed that they have yet to show a building that collapsed due to that nasty earthquake, only the structures in front of the wall of water.  I am sure there is structural damage but none the less impressive!

I am particularly interested in what the actual millicuries per second are.  I know the US ship said it was the equal amount of your monthly natural (roughly 42 mR) allowable but if that was taken in a few seconds, still damaging.

Found some info.. Levels of 400 millisieverts per hour had been recorded near the No. 4 reactor, the government said. Exposure to over 100 millisieverts a year is a level which can lead to cancer, according to the World Nuclear Association.  (Notice the - per hour vs per year, huge difference!

My old man lived through Chernobyl.  His conclusion is that Japan's fucked and everyone around the place will die.

Also, if you guys are bored, here's some Euro's guide through Chernobyl recently:

Can one of you Getbig Chemist answer this question for me... if the Nuclear plant is close to ocean and they are pumping gallons and gallons of water to cool the Core down, won't the run off of water back to the ocean destroy the ocean  ???

I mean i know its a big fuccking ocean, but for sure the Sushi cuisine  will be done for
